Since many video game systems have become so popular in recent years, people are spending more time than ever just sitting on the couch playing these games. To fix this problem, some gaming companies are coming out with interactive, video game-like ways to stay in shape. You get fit while having fun playing. The two main games that have used this approach to fitness are "Dance Dance Revolution" and the "Wii Fit."
The DDR games offer a specific "Workout Mode" in which players can choose a song, and play accordingly using either the normal step routine, or a modified step routine designed to provided a workout. The workout mode also allows players to track their progress, not in the standard step scores, but by calories burned, minutes played, and distance traveled. The game also calculates the equivalent of DDR dancing to common exercise activities, and can keep track of a player's weight as well.
Wii Fit is another combination of fitness and fun geared towards getting people in shape. With this system you use the Wii board to translate your moves to the screen. You can choose from a variety of workouts and routines. You can check your daily progress in Wii Fit with easy-to-understand charts and graphs. The orange line you see in the center of the graph represents your BMI the first time you checked it. From then on, it's easy to tell how you've done since you started using Wii Fit. You can also set goals, check your Wii Fit Age, and even enter exercise time you've done outside of Wii Fit.
With getting fit this much fun, you have no excuse not to work out every day!
