Volleyball
More fun than sitting around, and you can play with as little as two people! Volleyball does require a ball, but most schools are set up with all the necessaries. If your on your own, you can still play, just with different rules: When there's no net, try "juggling" games, where you and your friends try to keep the ball in the air while going through the alphabet, or counting to higher and higher numbers. When you get good, you can also add the difficulty of switching up the type of hits: dig (a low scooping hit with both hands together and low) and set (bouncing the ball lightly off your fingers when it's overhead). These 'drills' are fun, and will improve your skills for playing the game later.
If you don't have a ball, you can use a koosh-ball, a bean-bag, a balled up pair of socks, or even a stuffed animal - experiment a little!
It's always a good idea to do some sort of gentle warm up before starting any physical activities, like jogging for 5 or 6 minutes, and some gentle stretches to make sure all your body parts are feeling up to the challenge.
What do you get out of it? A total body workout that increases cardio-vascular fitness, and improves your hand/eye coordination. Plus, you have fun learning to work with your friends, instead of competing with them!
Fit Tip # 13
Go for a swim!
If you don't already have access to a pool, a lake, a pond or the ocean, go online and find one in your area. Most cities have some sort of public pool, or at the very least a youth club or YMCA that has one, and that will also sponsor swim lessons if you don't already know how! Getting 'into the swim' is not only healthy, promoting long lean muscle growth and increasing the effectiveness of your cardio-vascular system (heart, arteries and lungs), it also helps you with breath control, and provides psychological benefits as well! Just being in the water, or floating on it, is balancing for mind and body! Give it a try! But always with a buddy and/or adult supervision!
