Change the World Kids - Zoe Isaacs
“No one can do everything, but everybody can do something.” These aren’t just words of wisdom but a way of life for the Change the World Kids. “It’s really changed me as a person”, says Zoe Isaacs who joined the group at age 13. The group, created by friends of Zoe, revolves around helping those in need; from feeding the homeless, to rebuilding a dam to re-establish a goose pond. A trip to Costa Rica inspired the group to raise money to reforest a migratory route for endangered birds. By 2006, they had raised over 150,000 and purchased their third parcel of land. Now, at 16, Zoe has started the group’s newest project: A youth program bringing education and HIV/AIDS testing to some 2,000 kids in Rwanda! “Before, I had never done anything like this. But now, it’s something that I want to do all the time.” To make it happen, she wrote letters to Bill Clinton and Dr. Paul Farmer, known for his great social work in poor nations such as Haiti, Russia and Rwanda. Now they’re all working together! “I’ve been places that obviously a lot of people my age haven’t, like Africa and Costa Rica”, says Zoe, “... got me out of that ‘high school drama’, gave me more of a world view.” For more on Change the World Kids or to start a group in your area, go to: www.changetheworldkids.com
