Happy Clay-Day!

showimg1_400_132Nov. 30th, 2007

That’s right!  It’s Idol-runner up Clay Aiken’s birthday today, so wish him a happy one!  And what is Clay doing for his birthday?!?

Playing a show for his ‘Clay-Mates’, of course!  He’s in Kalamazoo, Michigan tonight at the Miller Auditorium, and we’ll list the rest of his tour dates for his Christmas in the Heartland Tour below.

Have a great day, Clay!

Click Here to visit the website!

Now why are they KEWL-worthy?  They have a special award for kids!!!  The “Butterfly Award” is especially for kids who have started charitable foundations!  You can find out all about these kewl kids, and vote  for your favorite group on the site!  Yep!  It gets even more kewl all the time!  In future months, we’ll be contacting some of these kids for our reader’s spotlight section, so you can learn even more about them in the coming months!  Congratulations to all the Butterfly nominees!

Keys On Top… Again

Nov. 29th, 2007showimg1_400_131

Alicia Keys hit single “No One” is number one on the Hot 100 for the second week in a row!  That’s great, but nothing to the seven weeks she’s been number one on the R&B charts… it just took the rest of the country a little longer to catch on, that’s all!  Right now, she also happens to be number one on the Hot Digital Songs, Hot Digital Tracks charts (That’s great, but would someone explain to us what the difference is?!?) as well as Top Digital Albums and Hot RingMasters!!!  That’s a lot of Top and Hot for one person!  Congratulations to the savvy singer/songwriter!

Helio Wins!

Nov. 28th, 2008

showimg1_400_128Top North American race car driver Helio Castroneves has been chosen winner of this year’s “Dancing with the Stars”!  He and his partner danced their way to victory last night – and what a gorgeous pair they make!  As a matter of fact, his partner Julianne Hough was also the partner of last year’s winner, Olympic Speedskating medalist Apolo Ohno!  So it does take two to tango!!!  Let’s hear it for Julianne, who’s choreography and grace may really be what’s winning over the judges!  That, and the natural athleticism of her partners!  In second place was Spice Girl Mel B and her partner Maksim Cherkovsky, who were favored to win, and in third Marie Osmond and partner Jonathan Roberts.  Congratulations to all for making it to the finals, and giving us such beautiful dancing to watch!!!

The Tin Man is Coming!

Nov. 28th, 2008showimg1_400_129

Are you ready?  Last night, the cast of the Sci-Fi Channel’s miniseries “The Tin Man” was out at Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome to celebrate the premiere of the show!  It’s a modern sci-fi fantasy retelling of the old “Wizard of Oz” story, starring Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming, Neal McDonough, Kathleen Robertson, Raoul Trujillo and Baxter the dog… Well, somebody had to play Toto!!!  The show will begin airing this Sunday, December 2nd on the Sci-Fi Channel.  And make sure to check out their super-trippy website!  It’s like a combination between a lava lamp, and going down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland, all at the same time!  KEWL!

Dancing Finale Tonight!

Nov. 27th, 2007

The top three couples in "Dancing With The Stars" are in it to win it tonight, and there’s no turning back!  Going in to last night’s final competition dances, Spice Girl Mel B was in the lead with her partner Maksim Chmerkovsky.  Second in points, comes Helio Castroneves, the South American race car driver, and his partner Julianne Hough, who is fighting a case of bronchitis.  At a distant third is Marie Osmond and her partner Jonathan Roberts.  As the voting is done half by the judges and half by the audience, the popularity contest factor is high.  Given the fact that Mel B is much more famous in the states than Helio, who do you think is going to win?!?  Tune in tonight on ABC for the final results show and find out!

Persepolis?

Nov. 27th, 2007persepolis_400

Have you heard of Persepolis?  It’s a graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, turned animated film, about a young girl  (named Marjane!) going through adolescence during the rise of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.  Yep!  Girls grew up and discovered punk music and tried to wear cool clothes and fought with their parents in Iran, too!  We are all the same on some levels, it’s just the things we must face that are different.  The movie is PG-13, and you may have to search for it, as it’s a French production and might be considered ‘artsy’ by the mainstream theatre chains.  Talk about a learning experience, though!  It’ll definitely be worth your while!  It’s coming out Christmas day, so check it out!

Monique ‘n Lucas Down Under

Nov. 26th, 2007

showimg1_400_126The pair of stars from High School Musical were in Australia for the finale of the “Australian Idol” TV show!  We haven’t seen Lucas in a while (he was AWOL for the HSM2 DVD premiere in Hollywood last Monday!), but now maybe we know why!  He’s sporting dark brown hair!!!   Wonder if it was an accident, or on purpose?  The ‘do’ looks good, but if all goes according to plan, he’ll have to bleach it back for HSM3 starting filming in March 2008!  Let’s hope his hair can handle all that processing! (Sadly, there were no pix of Lucas with his new dark hair available at press time - darn it!)

Happy Birthday Natasha!

Nov. 26th, 2007showimg1_400_127

Today, you can send some happy birthday wishes out to Natasha Bedingfield, the soulful British pop singer of the ueber-hit “Unwritten”!  The best way to say happy birthday?  Her next album is coming out in December, so give her props by giving it a listen as soon as you can - tracks are available to listen to on her site already!  If “Unwritten” is anything to go by, the next album should be full of songs we’ll be singing for years as well!  Happy Birthday, Natasha!

Jordin’s Spark

Nov. 21st, 2007showimg1_400_124

Our most recent, and youngest ever, American Idol winner released her first album yesterday, and it’s being reviewed as a winner!  As a whole waaay more lively than the first single “Tattoo”, there’s energy and fun to spare on this career –making or –breaking disc.  Make sure to check it out, and add your reviews to our review section as soon as we can get it posted!  Are the critics right or wrong?!?

Does Hannah Have a Birthday Too?

showimg1_400_125Nov. 21st, 2007

That would truly be the Best of Both Worlds!  Wouldn’t it?  But back to reality: Miley Cyrus will be celebrating her 15th birthday on Friday!  Novemeber 23rd is her big day (along with Lucas Grabeel of HSM!), and how will she be celebrating?  By giving a concert in her home state of Tennessee!   That’s right!  The songstress will be in Nashville, giving it up for her hometown fans.  Maybe she’ll get a moment to relax after her tour is over?  Not likely!  That’s when the finishing touches are going to be done on her concert video DVD, which will be available already on February 1st!!!  If we were her, we’d suggest Spring Break in the Bahamas!  Happy Birthday, Miley!

HSM2 Hits the Streets!

Nov. 20th, 2007showimg1_400_122

Today you can finally own your very own copy of ‘High School Musical 2’!  The stars of the movie were out in force at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre for a big Disney-style premiere, and KEWL was there to catch all the action!  Of course, your faves Zac, Vanessa, Ashley, Corbin, Monique, and the rest of the gang were there, as well as the young stars of other TV shows and films!  We'll follow up with more info and pix later, as they come in!

Happy Birthday Cody!

Nov. 20th, 2007showimg1_400_123

Today is Cody Linley’s Birthday, so wish him a happy one!  If you’re not familiar with the crushable blonde cutie, he’s the guy Miley Cyrus swoons over on "Hannah Montana" – the infamous Jake Ryan!  Yep!  He’s turning 18 today, so let’s see how he rocks the vote this year!  Congratulations Cody!  Happy 18th!

AMAs or Idol?

Nov. 19th, 2007showimg1_400_120

Last night, the difference wasn’t that big!  Two of the three frontrunners for wins in the now public opinion based awards contest are an ex-Idol finalist, and an Idol winner!  With three wins each Chris Daughtry and his band “Daughtry”, and Carrie Underwood stole the most statues of any other music acts.  Does this mean that American Idol is truly picking the best America has to offer?  Or does it say more about how all that publicity can affect the public’s perception and acceptance of a music act?  There’s no denying the talent they represent, but that much publicity has never hurt anyone…except maybe Britney Spears.  Following up with two awards was Justin Timberlake, and with one each awards went to Beyonce, Rascal Flatts, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and Akon.

The entertainment power was also on high with performances by Beyonce with Sugarland, Celine Dion, Lenny Kravitz, Fergie, will.i.am., Nicole Scherzinger, Maroon 5, Avril Lavigne, Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Rascal Flatts and The Jonas Brothers!!!  What a night of music that was!!!  Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!

Joe’s Broken Glass

Nov. 19th, 2007showimg1_400_121

During their performance of “SOS” last night at the AMAs, Joe Jonas took a spill coming through the ‘shattered glass’ frames they were standing behind at the start of the number.  The true professional, he jumped right to his feet and went on with the number with his brothers!  In some shots, however, it looks like that glass may not have been safety glass, and Joe cut his hand on one of the shards!  We hope it’s just a scratch and not anything more serious!  Way to perform, Joe!  And we hope your booboo heals quickly!

Reba and Kelly!

Nov. 16th, 2007showimg1_400_118

That’s not a typo for “Regis and Kelly”!  Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson are going on the road together!  They’ll take in 15 cities in the month from Jan. 17th through Feb. 16th, with their “2 Worlds 2 Voices” Tour… sound like the title of someone else’s tour that we know?!?  Only this time, it really is two people!!!  Kelly is currently on tour, and will be working right up to the beginning of the tour, as well as dates after their tour on her own in Europe.  Now we know who the hardest working girl in show business is!  Okay – Miley’s in there, too!  The show should be a true cross-section of pop and country, and will probably unite different generations in the audience, too!  Do I hear “Family Outing”?!?  Here are the dates you can catch them:

Jan. 17: Dayton, Ohio (Nutter Center)

Jan. 18: Louisville (Freedom Hall)

Jan. 19: Morgantown, W.Va. (West Virgina University)

Jan. 24: Norfolk, Va. (Norfolk Scope Arena)

Zac’s Choice

Nov. 16th, 2007showimg1_400_119

Our favorite High School Musical star was out doing a good deed at John Adams Middle School in Los Angeles yesterday.  There to explain to kids a new charity called DonorsChoose.org.  It’s kewl, because teachers and classrooms come up with learning projects or materials they need for their classes, and donor’s choose which projects they are most interested in supporting!  That way, those giving can feel a more personal connection to those they are giving to, and maybe even check in on the results!  In the pictures we saw, there didn’t seem to be anyone but Zac in them!  You think the kids lost their minds just a little bit, and had to be kept away for everyone’s safety?!?  We sure wouldn’t want to get any scratches on our Zac!  …Or on any of the John Adams Middle-Schoolers, either!

Jo Bro Go Gold!

Nov. 15th, 2207dsc_1203_400_01

The Jonas Brothers are celebrating because their album has gone Gold!  That means that their most recent self titled album has sold 500,000 copies!  Congratulations, guys!  Not only are the guys pulling double duty, on tour with Miley Cyrus, and doing their own gigs later at night after her shows are done (!), but they’ll also be playing Sunday at the American Music Awards, which you can watch from home on your very own TV!!!  It’s ABC, so check your local listings for the time!  Can’t get enough of these guys!

Carrie Enchants Us!

Nov. 15th, 2007showimg1_400_117

Carrie Underwood’s new video for the theme-song for Disney’s “Enchanted” came out today, and if it’s any sign of things to come, we’ll have a super-romantic princess-dreamy movie to watch come next Friday!!!  That’s something to be ‘thankful’ for!!!  KEWL will be on hand at the premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood this Saturday, so look out for some exclusive photos next week of the stars of the movie!

Nov. 14th, 2007hayden_panettiere_1057_400

Though out of work due to the Hollywood Writer’s Strike, “Hero” Hayden Panettiere had time to be on hand for EA games’ debut of their “Need For Speed” video game last night.  KEWL was there, and we’ll be following up with some exclusive pix and quotes from the starlet on her own Need for Speed!

Comics to Movies

Nov. 14th, 2007showimg1_400_116

Hollywood is going crazy right now with the whole ‘Super hero’ thing!  Not only is “Heroes” one of the hottest shows on TV, along with “Smallville” and “The Bionic Woman”,  the movies it’s bringing out in the coming year show more of the same: “Wolverine” and “Batman: Dark Knight” are already filming!  Now, they are announcing even more comic to film projects: a film version of “Dragon Ball Z” is planned, with “War of the Worlds” hottie Justin Chatwin in the lead role of Goku, and James Marsters (Buffy’s Spike) as the lead villain!  Both guys are already in training with the same people who prepared the action sequences in films like “The Matrix” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”.  Also on the radar is a film featuring the Justice League.  Talan Torreiro, from “Laguna Beach” has been quoted as saying he would love to play the role.  We know comics might not be a ‘girl thing’, but comic book heroes sure are!!!

New T’s for 2008

Nov. 13th, 2007showimg1_400_114

The band behind this summer’s mega-hit “Hey There Delilah”, The Plain White T’s, are on the way to cutting another album in 2008!  But before they do that, they’ll have to finish up with Fall Out Boy’s “The Wild Young Things” Tour, and then head overseas for some even bigger shows.  Tom Higgenson, their lead singer and writer for most of their songs, is just waiting for a short break to finish up the songs he has already, and maybe a little more of a break to come up with some more even newer ones.  Doesn’t look like he’ll be getting one soon, though.  The band is just getting known in the UK, and will be sure to fill the theatres and halls over there in no time!  Nothing like spreading the good music all around the world, is there?!

Underwood and Urban!

Nov. 13th, 2007showimg1_400_115

Another bit of musical joy to look forward to in the new year is the planned tour of country superstars Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood!  Set to start on Jan. 31st, 2008, and hit 24 cities, both are touring with material from new albums: Underwood’s “Carnival Ride” and Urban’s “Greatest Hits: 18 Kids” that comes out on November 20th.  We’re not sure what that name means… except maybe each hit song is like a child to the one who creates it?!?  Let us know if you have a better explanation!  What these two have in common?  They record on the same label, they are both young and good looking, and they are both dating good looking actors!  Great artists, unite!  Here’s a list of the cities they’ll be visiting, though the dates are not yet set:

Uncasville, Conn.

New York

Atlantic City, N.J.

Tallahassee, Fla.

Devon at the Love Ride!

Nov. 12th, 2007showimg1_400_113

Yesterday, Hollywood’s most rugged were out to raise money for the kids at the 24th Annual Love Ride in Los Angeles.  It’s been hosted by Jay Leno for the last bunch of years, and brings together motorcycle riders from all over Southern California.  The ride supports a bunch of charities including, Children’s Hospital LA, Big Brothers and Sisters, Cure Autism Now, Autism Speaks, The Special Olympics, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, among others.  This year, the ride goes from Glendale, CA all the way to the Fairplex in Pomona, and involves so many bikes (and classic fire engines, too) that it can close city streets for nearly an entire hour.  Very kewl to watch!  Now, whether Devon was driving or riding, we don’t yet know, but we’re glad to see him out and supporting a good cause…again!  Too bad we don’t have any pix of Devon on his ‘ride’!  If you do, send them in!

Won’t Write, Don’t Ask Us

Nov. 12th, 2007

The Writer’s Guild has gone on strike, and will be affecting what you see on TV starting pretty quick!  Most shows you watch are filmed only about three weeks in advance of their airing on television, and since the strike is one week old already, you’ve probably only got one or two more episodes to go before re-runs hit… or more bad reality TV!  What’s it all about?  The Internet!  Waaaay back when ‘home entertainment’ (videos, then laser discs, then dvds) was first invented, no one knew if it would make money or not, so writer’s agreed to get paid a tiny sum for each copy of their work (80 percent less than their usual pay!).  As we now know, the ‘home entertainment industry’ is making tons of money, sometimes more than when a movie is in theatres or a show is on TV, and the writers are seeing almost none of the profits (same goes for actors, by the way).  Now producers want to do the same deal for putting content online!  Difference is, we now know that this is a bad deal!  If you feel like people should be paid a fair share for the work they do, then do your best to support the strike!  We’re not talking salaries of the rich and famous, here, we’re talking the people whose names you don’t know!  The hard-working regular 'joe's'!

Gossip Boys

Nov. 9th, 2007

showimg1_400_111The guys from Gossip Girl were in the studio last night, giving one of their first interviews after the growing success of the new scandal filled show.  Chace Crawford (who is also rumored to be dating Carrie Underwood) and Ed Westwick (Okay, so he’s got a girlfriend, too… but we can always look!) took a trip down to New York City’s CW11.com to talk about where they’ve been, how things are going, and what aspirations they have for the future.  (Batman and Robin?)  Another hot topic for the guys?  Music!  Ed’s into English indie bands and classic blues, while Chace made some comment about Barbra Streisand (?!?).  We think he was kidding, even if she does have an incredible voice!

Who’s Cuter?

Nov. 9th, 2007showimg1_400_112

Cirque du Soleil’s newest show, “Wintuk”, premiered this week in New York City, and actress Abigail Breslin was there for the fun!  The young award winner from last year’s “Little Miss Sunshine” has been super busy lately, making lots of new films for next year.  There’s even one where she imagines her regular guy father is really an Indiana Jones-style adventurer, out saving the world from destruction!  Sounds fun!  ‘Cirque’ shows are super-kewl, super imaginative versions of circus acts, just without the animals!  All human pet tricks, if you will!  If you get a chance to see any of their shows, GO!

Chris Brown’s Kiss

Nov. 8th, 2007

showimg1_400_109…Kiss (featuring T-Pain) is #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the second week!  As the song is also the biggest gainer in radio play, we can safely say this will be the anthem of the fall!  The number two spot is filled by Timbaland’s “Apologize”, and both are joined by climber “No One” by Alicia Keys at number three.  Also interesting is the fact that T-Pain, Timbaland and Kanye West each have two titles in the top 10 this week!  They sure know how to write ‘em!

CMA Winners

Nov. 8th, 2007showimg1_400_110

And Miss Underwood wins again!  She claims she was surprised last night to win the Country Music Association’s crystal statuette for female singer, and her single “Before He Cheats” took the best single honor, too.  She may have been surprised, but we sure weren’t!  Other winners include Kenny Chesney for Entertainer of the Year, and Brad Paisley for best male singer.  It was a show full of upsets, as evergreen duet winners Brooks & Dunn were beat out by relative newcomers Sugarland, and Rascal Flatts performed their duet “She Goes All the Way” with actor/singer Jamie Foxx.  Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!

To start off the new season of Project Runway, Heidi Klum was on hand to host a fashion show with her co-hosts Tim Gunn and Nina Garcia, and of course, the new contestants!  Are you a ProjRun fan?  Any budding fashion designers out there?  The show premieres November 14th on Bravo with this fashion show featuring 3 signature looks from each of the 15 new contenders!  Great way to set the scene!

Oohh! Pretty!

Nov. 6th, 2007showimg4_400

These photos of Keira Knightly behind the scenes of her upcoming film "The Duchess" don't show her character at her most lovely, but she manages to be lovely all the same!  It's a period drama set in the mid 1700's about the real life experiences of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire - a woman who was both a role model, and a cautionary tale of excess... so yes, exciting and scandalous!  And kind of current events, if you think about it!  Paris, Nicole, Lindsay, Britney... We mainly like the costumes!  Anyone for a powdered wig?!?

 showimg1_400_105

We also like the anachronism (out of it's correct time) of her with her modern dress boyfriend, Rupert Friend!  They look so happy!

showimg5_400

In this scene, Keira's character is giving away her baby, and it looks very dramatic!  Poor Keira!  Can't wait to see the movie when it's out!

Orlando Against the Thaw

Nov. 6th, 2007

showimg1_400_106Orlando Bloom was out to support the fight against global warming... and specifically the fight against polar melting... and even more specifically, the photo essays of his cousin, Sebastian Copeland, that chronicles the loss of large portions of the Antarctic ice shelves.  The exhibition of photographs is on display at the Jan Kesner gallery in Hollywood, California, and is titled "Antarctica: The Global Warning Exhibition"  Both men went on an ice-breaker as crew to see the damage for themselves, and had a very 'non-VIP' experience on board, sleeping in cramped berths and scrubbing the decks along with the other pirates... we mean, "sailors"!  Good cause, good work!

Nov. 5th, 2007

showimg1_400_103American Idol winner Jordin Spark’s video for her new single “Tattoo” is available to watch on YouTube!  What do you guys think?!?  Here at KEWL, we’re just glad it’s not set in some place a seventeen year old shouldn’t be!  The carousel on the Santa Monica Pier is a classic date destination, and a good fit for Jordin’s flirty song… and self!  And even good buddy Blake Lewis is on board for the big party finish!  The only thing that bugs, is that the sound and picture weren’t totally synched when we played it – what up with that?  Hope your connection is better!  Her new album is vaguely slated to street "before Thanksgiving", which is right around the corner!  More as soon as we find it!

Roxanne!

Nov. 2nd, 2007

showimg1_400_101Jennifer Garner of TV's "Alias" has just landed rave reviews for her debut on Broadway!  In the role of Roxanne in the classic play "Cyrano de Bergerac", she is a tomboy in a time when tomboys were strictly not allowed!  A woman who wants real love, or no love at all.  Smart girl!  She is wooed by two men: The hunky, but clumsy Christian, and his extremely smart and witty friend Cyrano - who has just one flaw: An alarmingly large nose!  Jennifer was gifted with two of the greatest co-stars a woman could wish for on stage: Broadway veterans Daniel Sunjata (Christian) and Kevin Kline (as Cyrano).  If you haven't read the play yet, the first scene has one of the best monologues ever about taking ridicule, and making your mocker the mocked!  It's the best, "If only I had said..." speech that was ever written!  Check it out!

Kelly Rocks Chicago's Sox!

Nov. 2nd, 2007showimg2_400_18

Kelly Clarkson took her "My December Tour" to the Chicago Theatre last night, and rocked out!  Despite the fact that she cancelled her big summer arena tour, the girl is giving it to her fans in sold out theatre shows that are much more intimate, and in our opinion, a better fit for the intimate kind of music on this album!  For the rest of her tour dates, check below!

Carrie at the Top!

Nov. 1st, 2007

showimg1_400_99With super high sales, country pop star Carrie Underwood and her new album “Carnival Ride” have taken the top spot on the Billboard 200 Chart! With over 4 times the amount of copies sold than the number two album, Carrie is proving again what a superstar she is becoming!  It’s her first number one spot on the chart – with only her second album!  In another first, the number two and three spots on the chart are also filled in with country music albums!  The somewhat unlikely duo of Robert Plant (Rock Legend) and Alison Krauss (Bluegrass Underground Legend) have taken the number two slot with their album “Raising Sand”, and the number three spot is filled by Gary Allan and his album “ Living Hard”.  Who knew Halloween week was also Country week?!?

Look Out, Carrie!

Nov. 1st, 2007showimg1_400_100

Though Carrie has the top spot, there’s a big gainer coming up from behind, and with huge sales on her first day out, Britney Spears new album “Blackout” is proving to be a force to be reckoned with!  Despite all the chaos in her life, Britney has managed to find some stability in her producer, Timbaland, who has helped her turn out an utterly danceable set that is catchy, and catching on, even with all her current personal turmoil.  Stay tuned to see which blonde popstar reigns supreme at the end of the week!
