Hot Dekker Jam

thomas_dekker_kewl_mag_400Sep 30, 2008

Well, if you’re not a fan of deep, dark 80’s movie history, then you might miss out on how important the song “Hot Lunch Jam” (and its dizzyingly incredible dance number) was in the mother of all modern movie musicals “Fame”. There is a redo in the works of the teen dream stories of the kids of the New York High School of the Performing Arts, and one young star is ready to take on the iconic original role of Marco – the kid with the mad acting chops. Thomas Dekker of Fox’s new “Terminator” series thinks he’s the guy to pull it off. If his work on the show up to now is any indication, we think he’s got a pretty good point!

Puzzle Me a Record

puzzle_sm_400

Sep 30, 2008

The town of Ravensburg, Germany may have just earned themselves a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records! The town is already famous as the home of one of the world’s largest puzzle making companies – just check any puzzle box you might find in any store, and it’ll probably be a “Ravensburger Puzzle”! But doesn’t that make them the perfect people to make the world record?!? Right! So on Sunday morning, the residents of the town got together and assembled 1,141,800 pieces in less than 5 hours! The finished puzzle was 6,500 square feet, and nearly covered every bit of the town square. Although it sounds like a gimmie, the results have been submitted to the record book, and still have to be officially announced. Sometimes, where you come from does shape you…and these people seem to be in tip-top puzzle shape! Congratulations to all who took part in Ravensburg!

iCarly Fix

i_carly_pic_400Sep 27, 2008

We can finally get your fix of the iCarly gang with the second season premiere tonight!  Nickelodeon has done it one more time opening the show with “I Saw Him First”. Will a certain someone be the end to Carly and Sam’s friendship? Who knows, but we’ll sure tune in to see what happens (9 p.m. ET/PT). Before the sitcom/website, catch the fifth annual World Wide Day of Play in which Nickelodeon shuts down from 12pm to 3 to promote healthy habits and activity. The iCarly cast and Olympic gold medalist swimmer Natalie Coughlin will be there to switch the light back on and celebrate. After the show, watch Miranda Cosgrove (Carly) perform the music hit “Stay My Baby” from iCarly: Music from and Inspired by the Hit Series. So be sure to set your record button if you think you might miss this special event. It will be big!

They Float!

sprouse_twins_kewl_mag_400

Sep 26, 2008

In two weeks, we’ll all finally get to see more Zack and Cody again! Dylan and Cole Sprouse are back at the ‘Suite Life’, but this time, it’s on a boat! In this all new series, London’s father has bought a cruise ship, and the gang is back on board and up to their usual stunts. The SS Tipton (do I hear a Tiptanic?) is home not only to the usual cast of characters from the old hotel, but also to Seven Seas High, the one high school that London’s father thinks can keep her in class and out of the malls – after all, it’s a pretty long swim to the mall! With all the new students, and your old favorites, you know you’ll have to tune in and check this one out! It premieres on the Disney Channel on Friday, September 26th @ 8pm. All aboard!

Hannah on Demand

hannah_montana_kewl_mag_400_01

Sep 24, 2008

Home entertainment company Netflix is moving with the times! Not only have they started to make movies available to watch online as well as mailing out DVDs to customers home, but now they’re making deals with the TV networks to make their shows available on demand just hours after the original broadcast!  Among our faves on the list of soon to be available fare are “Hanna Montana”, “Wizards of Waverly Place”, and “The Suite Like on Deck”! There will also be grown up shows available too, and even some classics like Family Ties, MacGyver and Star Trek.  The two companies who have made the deal so far are, as you might guess (!) The Disney Channel and CBS. If all goes well, I’m sure we’ll see more to follow!

Penny Gets a Make-over

penny_designs

Sep 23, 2008

Is this fun, or frivolous?!? The penny, the least useful of all the coins we have in US currency, and the most collected, is getting a make-over. In 2009, the US Treasury will issue four new penny designs for Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial celebration showing different stages in the iconic man’s life. His face will stay on the front as is, but the back is where the differences will be. Does it make sense to spend money redesigning and replacing billions of copper (not so much anymore) pennies, when they may very soon be a thing of the past?!? Sure, we like the new quarter designs, and the bills are great with more color, but isn’t redoing the penny like, well, fixing up a new VCR?

Don’t Forget!

demi_lovato_kewl_mag_400

Sep 23, 2008

To rush out and get your new Demi Lovato “Don’t Forget” CDs today!!! That’s the biggest news in new releases for today, and not too shabby for that. You can download it at iTunes, go to Target for a CD/DVD pack showing Demi live in concert, or go to Walmart to get the CD with an exclusive poster…what, no ‘win a date with Demi’ offer?!? A few others things out today that we think are kewl: 10th Anniversary Edition of ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ (the book, of course!) with new art work and ‘bonus material’, “Schoolhouse Rock: The Election Edition” with a new song and an election tracking kit to track the election results in all 50 states, and the “HSM2: Deluxe Dance Edition DVD” – biggest bonus? It comes with a sneak peek of HSM3 AND A FREE PASS TO THE MOVIE!!! Oh, yeah!

Swift’s Anatomy

taylor_swift_kewl_mag_400Sep 22, 2008

This young country songstress is going to have to come up with some new dreams before her old ones all get realized! Another wish on Taylor Swift’s list has been granted this week, as it was announced that her song “White Horse” off of her upcoming album “Fearless” will be used in the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy on September 25th. As a big fan of the show, she was beside herself with happiness at the news. “Fearless” arrives in stores on November 11th. Congratulations, Taylor!

Emmy Winners

tina_fey_kewl_mag_400Sep 22, 2008

Wow! So much controversy over a TV show about, well, TV shows! But it is a bit of a problem when paid professionals can’t manage to make an audience laugh – even one as nervous and on the edge of their seats as this one! The show opened with a fizzle, as someone didn’t tell the reality hosts that the writer’s strike has been over for about nine months. Josh Groban sang, which by all accounts was the most watchable moment of the show…except of course the winners getting their statues…unless the speech was too long or just plain boring! Is it time to send Hollywood back to a Public Speaking Class?  Toastmasters, anyone?!? Sheesh! But to the really important part – the winners!

Night Game

jo_bro_kewl_mag_400

Sep 19, 2008

The Jonas Brothers gave lil’ bro Nick a very special birthday gift last night: They rented out Dodger Stadium in LA for a private night game with a few of their closest friends! It’s an expensive gift, but these guys can’t just go to the local pizza parlor like the rest of us! And anyway, these guys are so used to filling stadiums with fans for shows, it’s probably the same as throwing a party on the local middle-school’s field for you and me, right? Okay…maybe not so much. A continuing Happy Birthday month to Nick Jonas!

Cody Takes Disney

cody_julianne_kewl_mag_400Sep 19, 2008

Yesterday, Cody Linley took over Radio Disney with his “Dancing With the Stars” partner, Julianne Hough! They were there to get teens pumped to watch him battle it out, and show his ‘leading man’ chops, in the ABC reality competition series. So if you want Cody to win, or even stay in the game, you’ll have to watch and vote! In the past, teen stars, even ones who were dancing beautifully, don’t tend to win, because not enough teens are watching and voting. You can change all that! Go for it! Check out the next episode on Monday @ 8pm, and the results show on Tuesday @ 9pm on ABC!

Pink Rising!

pink_funhouse_kewl_mag_400

Sep 18, 2008

Pink is on top of the Hot 100 chart with the debut of her new single “So What” selling over 253,000 copies last week! This girl is on fire right now, having just released a first look at the fun cover art for her upcoming album “Funhouse”, which is due out on October 28th. Is there some theme going on in the music business? Britney’s album is being called “Circus”…what other midway and sideshow titles will be coming our way? We’re guessing that it’s true…girls do just want to have fun!

One MySpace Hill

kate_voegele_kewl_mag_400Sep 18, 2008

Kate Voegele is set to present her newest single on the TV show One Tree Hill…and then not include it on her upcoming album “Don’t Look Away”! It’s a strange new way to gear up for a new album’s release, but Kate isn’t worried. “I love that everybody I work with is so unconventional with the way they approach an artist's career.” This song she’ll be singing on the Hill, as her character on the show Mia, is another first for her, because she didn’t write it herself! It was written by Diane Warren, who is one of the top song-writers in the English speaking world, and when Diane wants you to sing her song, you can’t help but be honored. “Diane Warren is, like, my hero!” As the leading voice of the MySpace Records label, we’re sure to keep hearing more from this talented and risk-taking singer, on tour, iTunes and TV!

Teen and the City

candace_bushnell_kewl_mag_400Sep 17, 2008

And we’re not talking about this week’s highest rated show so far, “Gossip Girl”, we’re talking about the official announcement that Sex and the City writer Candace Bushnell is planning a series of novels based on the life of her heroine, Carrie Bradshaw, in high school! We’re hoping she can keep the fun, and keep it high school appropriate at the same time, but who knows? The first book in the “Carrie Diaries” series isn’t due out until 2010, so there’s plenty of time for her to develop her teenage voice. She is planning for the books to be about Carrie as a leader of fashion and the social scene – though she might have forgotten that the best observers are usually a little more off to the side socially! At any rate, it ought to be fun, and with any luck, might also be made into a TV series…Would you want to play the teenage Carrie Bradshaw?  Can anyone say “More Shoes Please!”?

Ewwy’s ???

ewwyawards_kewl_mag_400

Sep 17, 2008

Entertainment Weekly just announced something that we think is fun! Because the Emmy Awards only give nominations to 5 television actresses, and there are so many more that we love out there, they are introducing the first annual EWwy Awards. That way they can give props and awards to more of our favorite actors and actresses out there! We won’t talk more about it now, except that the polls close today at 3pm Eastern Time/Noon Pacific Time, so get to it!!! Go to EW.com (with your parents permission, of course!) for the full ballot!

The End of an Era

trl_kewl_mag_400Sep 16, 2008

After 10 years of consistently delivering the hottest stars and videos on MTV, the producers have announced the end of TRL! We are honestly a little stunned, as the show’s Times Square offices have always been a pilgrimage point for teens visiting the Big Apple. You could always count on some hot music star, idol or teen sensation to be co-hosting or performing, and of course, it was almost the only video based show left on the network that was built on music videos! Our hearts are broken! The last show is planned to be sometime in November (no date set yet), and will be a Saturday two-hour special.  Let’s hope they bring out the stars to celebrate the end of such an iconic show!

Happy Birthday, Nick!

nick_jonas_kewl_mag_400Sep 16, 2008

OMJ! Nick ‘J’, that is! On this super sweet and smart musical hunk’s birthday, we could all get a little dreamy with what we wish him…but it’s all GOOD! What a year these guys have had! Playing all over the world, criss-crossing the country for concerts and appearances and TV shows, plus filming Camp Rock last summer and the upcoming series J.O.N.A.S. RIGHT NOW! It’s a good thing Nick already had such an incredible work ethic – that is one tough schedule to keep up with! From us at KEWL, we wish you another year of dreams coming true, lots more music to keep us singing and dancing, and that we’ll get to see you again soon! We know you’re busy, but invite us to the set already!!! Lol! Happy, happy day to you!

Can’t Wait Albums!

david_cook_kewl_mag_400Sep 15, 2008

Official news on two of the hottest albums of the coming year is here. Both Britney Spears and David Cook have announced the street dates of their albums. For David, it’ll be his first, and for Britney, her first since she’s been re-admitted to the hard-working club of singers and musicians.  Britney’s album will be titled “Circus” and is due out on December 2nd…which just happens to be her birthday, too!  David will finally be treating us with some more swoon-worthy songs beginning November 18th, though we don’t have a title…will it just be called “David”?!?  There were two of those if memory serves!  Just something to add to your holiday wish lists!britney_spears_kewl_mag_400

Panda Squared

Sep 15, 2008

You want more Panda? Well, you can get more AND more when “Kung Fu Panda” hits DVD shelves on November 9th! For the first time, a movie and it’s direct to video sequel will hit stands on the very same day! And, it’s on a Sunday!!! Traditionally, all new games, music and videos hit the streets on Tuesdays, so this is a really different approach to getting the movies out to their fans. The sequel is called “Secrets of the Furious Five”, and picks up where the original movie left off. Are you a Panda fanda?

More Taylor

taylor_swift_vma_kewl_mag_400Sep 12, 2008

A date has finally been set for Taylor Swift’s second album, and it’s soon! On November 11th the country songstress will debut her second album, “Fearless”, and her first single, “Love Story”, will debut tonight @ 8:30 on CMT!!! If you don’t catch it right away, don’t fret! They’ll be replaying it every half hour until past bed-time, so you should be able to catch it. Pre-ordering this set is a must for any true fan, because there are so many different ways to buy it: One set has a T-shirt, bracelet, sticker and photo album included, plus the chance to win and autographed guitar and tickets to one of Taylor’s live concerts. Another version even lets you add a picture of yourself to the package! Now that’s kewl!

Less Taylor

taylor_momsen_short_kewl_magl_400Sep 12, 2008

Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen has debuted a new shorter, modern haircut at New York’s Fashion Week, and we think it’s a pretty big change! A far cry from her coy schoolgirl looks on the show, we’re wondering what her character will be doing that will allow her to have such grown up and rockin’ locks. It’s a pretty strong look, and makes her look much older than her 15 years, but is it too much? The fashion world is crazy for it, at any rate. We’ll see if the TV world is ready too!

Dollhouse Down

dollhouse_kewl_mag_400

Sep 11, 2008

The new sci-fi series “Dollhouse” by “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”-creator Joss Whedon is taking a break in shooting. In a pretty unheard of move, Whedon, who directs as well as writes the show, wanted to take another crack at the upcoming scripts instead of just racing them into being. It’s nice to see that there are people in Hollywood who are committed to turning out good shows, instead of just anything! The show stars Eliza Dushku (Bring It On, Buffy), and is about a group of reprogrammable, human assassins who begin to realize what is happening to them. In a similar move, the producers of the show “24” will also be taking a break to tighten up scripts this fall. Better TV instead of just more? We’re all for it!

We Hear Bells

tinkerbellst_400_01

Sep 11, 2008

‘Tinker’ Bells, that is! Two weeks before the premiere of the all new Disney animated film “Tinker Bell”, the soundtrack to the movie will be released, with all the fairy magic possible. The tunes will be sung by such stars as Loreena McKennitt, Katharine McPhee, Jonatha Brooke and Selena Gomez, and leave you feeling ‘fairy’ magical! The movie tells the story of Pixie Hollow, long before it was just another part of Neverland, and Tink’s rise as one of the most accomplished fairies ever. The soundtrack will be in stores on October 14th, and the DVD will be available October 28th! Do you believe in fairies?

Fashion Week

chanel_kewl_mag_400

Sep 10, 2008

This is it ladies! Have you been paying attention? New York’s Fashion Week has already started, and daily the stars of fashion are showing what you’ll be wearing 6 months from now in private shows all over NYC! The stars of everything else are all showing up to take a look, and some are even on the catwalk, wearing the styles and creations of their fave designers! Some of the fashions are decidedly NOT street-friendly (!), but you’ll find that pieces of the fashion fantasy will actually end up everywhere you look come spring! Can you pick out now what will be the hit six months from now? If you can, start looking into a career in design! You’ve got the beginnings of exactly what it takes! (ps: this is a pic from Paris Fashion Week!)

Zac-Coated Dreams?

zac_vma_kewl_mag_400Sep 10, 2008

Or is it Dreamcoated Zacs? Whatever! We’re in! But actually, this is all about a rumor that has been spreading across the internet, that Zac might take over the lead role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in London’s West End. Yep! That’s right! You could see Zac live onstage, singing and acting his heart out. Who says could, if it happens, we are soooo there! No one has confirmed the rumor yet, but maybe if we talk about it enough, we can convince the universe to make it happen. It’s worth a try!

New Release News!

miley_vma_kewl_mag_400.Sep 9, 2008

Divide your allowance well, girls! This is a tough week on the pocketbook! There are at least three things coming out today that we’ve already talked about in the magazine, and even we can’t decide which one to get first! Basically, you’ve got a choice: Boys or Girls? In the boys category, you get to choose between Menudo’s self titled first album with this newest and hottest set of guys (!), or the DVD “Taking 5” starring The Click Five with Eric Dill, plus Alona Tal and Daniella Monet! If you think that’s a tough choice, well then we’ll just add the Girls contender: Disney Girlz Rock 2! This one features, well EVERYONE! Miley, The Cheetah Girls, Emily Osment, Baby V, Demi, Selena, Hayden Panettiere, Aly & Aj, Jordin Pruitt, Raven-Symone, Hillary Duff, and Ashley Tisdale…What are you gonna do?!?

Just in time for Christmas present shopping! She’ll be teasing us first by debuting her new singles “If I Were a Boy” and “Single Ladies” on Oct. 7th! Those both sound great already!

Is Britney Back?

kewl_mag_britney_spears_400.Sep 8, 2008

Last night, Britney Spears may have publicly and officially begun her trek back into the light. She won three (!) MTV Video Music Awards, and they are unbelievably the first ones she's ever won! Her awards bear the titles Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Best Video of the Year, and they are all for one video - the revealing "Piece of Me", which tells about her life in the public eye. Other winners of the night included Chris Brown - male video of the year - "With You," Pussycat Dolls - best dancing in a video - "When I Grow Up", Linkin Park - best rock video - "Shadow of the Day", Lil Wayne - best hip-hop video - "Lollipop," and Tokio Hotel won the fan-voted best new artist honor, even thought they were sure they couldn't! That's exactly what they thought at the MTV Europe Awards last year, so no one can blame them for being self-important!!! In the categories that aren't shown on TV (why not?) the winners were Gnarls Barkley's "Run" - best art direction and best choreography, "Honey" by Erykah Badu - best direction, "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab For Cutie - best editing, "Conquest" by White Stripes - best cinematography; and Kanye West and T-Pain won for best special effects for "Good Life." What special effects? We think they might just have a pretty good life! Congratulations to all the nominees and winners!

Jo Bros Stand Tall

kewl_mag_jonas_brothersSept 8, 2008

The famous playwright Oscar Wilde once said "The only thing worse than being talked about, is NOT being talked about!" And in Hollywood, that couldn't be more true! So no matter what certain comics might be saying about the Jonas Brothers these days, they can't help but talk about them, because EVERYBODY knows who they are! Not only did they perform at the VMAs last night, but they will be appearing on today's Ellen show as well! And this is one comic who won't be making fun of the guys - the only person she's ever negative about is herself, and then, only to get a laugh. Let's hear it for positivity! Go, Bros, Go!

There's an itty-bitty rumor that The Suite Life on Deck star, Brenda Song, might be joining The Cheetah Girls for a fourth movie! Cheetah Girl member Keily Williams stated, "We have a dream of an Asian theme. The Cheetah Girls in China, with Shanghai nights full of songs and dance." The girls all became really good friends while being apart of the Disney Channel Games. We'll keep you posted on the latest developments!

Tokio TakeOver

bill_kaulitz_kewl_mag_400Sep 5, 2008

The guys from Tokio Hotel were just about to finish up their North American tour and go home to Germany to rest up after a super hectic year…but then they got nominated for two VMAs, so they’ll just have to stay and see if they can pick up an award or two! Just to keep them busy, Jimmy Kimmel is having them over on September 9th to film a live outdoor concert at Hollywood and Highland, so if you ever wanted to join the zoo, get on down there! The most rabid fans there will have a chance to win VIP treatment and a minute or two with the guys on Jimmy’s show! If you think it’s you, go to Tokiohotel-US.com, and find out all the details.

Auction Rocks!

fashionrockslogo_400Sep 4, 2008

This year, the Fashion Rocks celebrity charity even is teaming up with Stand Up To Cancer, and launching an online auction of celebrity items! Some things are signed, some are designed, some are tickets to celebrity filled events, and some are meet and greets with your fave stars…Only thing is, none of this will come cheap! As it’s a benefit, bidders are being encouraged to pay more than the going price for these items, to ensure that as much money goes towards the charities as possible. You get the picture, right? The whole thing goes live tomorrow, Sept. 5th, and will stay open for bids until the 15th. Hey, who knows? Maybe you’re ultra-low bid will actually make the grade – but with prizes like these, we think we’ll stick to dreaming about it for now. You can check everything out beginning tomorrow at ebay.com/fashionrocks.

Both actors are incredible Hip-Hop dancers (Alyson even teaches master classes in LA!), and will not only be showing off the moves from the movie, but also putting it out there for everyone watching to get into the game and make up their own dance moves, too! If you want to get inspired to Rock!, then tune in to Disney Channel on Saturday, Sept. 20th @ 8pm!

So there's some kewl new info about Demi Lovato's Disney Channel show. At first the show was titled "Welcome to Mollywood," but according to Alan Bates, it has now been changed to "Welcome to Holliwood." A much better title don't you think? The plot goes as follows: Demi plays Holli, a 15-year old girl from the Midwest who's incredibly talented. After entering a nation-wide search, she is chosen to go to Los Angeles to join the cast of the most popular teen sketch comedy show on TV. It's basically a show within a show. Which should provide for some pretty kewl and funny stuff! We'll keep you posted on when it airs!

Today, pop-goddess Christina Aguilera launched her new fragrance, ‘Inspire’! It sounds like a garden of delights for your nose: white rose, gardenia, tuberose and freesia, plus some mango and citrus to lighten it up a bit! What’s really kewl? All those flowers are white! And that’s Miss Christina’s signature color these days! We’re not into heavy perfumes ourselves, but these are some of our fave flowers scents, so this could be the perfect thing for a special occasion! Like a special birthday dinner out or even Fall or Winter Formal! Check it out!
