Underwood Soaring

Aug. 31st, 2007 -

showimg2_400_03Even though ex-Idol Carrie Underwood is still popping out hits from her last album, she’ll be releasing the next one already this fall!  The whole thing isn’t due in stores until October 23rd, but her first single, “So Small” is already making waves!  It’s the first time a female singer has debuted in the Hot Country Top 20 in over 40 years!  Let’s hear it for the girls!  The new album will be called “Carnival Ride”, which is a line from one of the songs on the album, “Wheel of the World”.  Carrie says that it sums up her view of life: that we’re all on a carnival ride, and never really know where we’re going.  Sounds scary, but also fun…and shouldn’t we look at life like that?!?

Cheetah-licious!

Aug. 31st, 2007 -

Been jonesing for some more Cheetah Girls, but there just hasn’t been showimg1_400_11any out there?  Well, that’s about to change…in a big way!  The Cheetah Girls are putting the finishing touches on their new album “TCG”, and it will be available on September 25th!  Not only that, but their new movie “Twitches 2” will be hitting this fall as well, right before the girls head off to India to start work on “The Cheetah Girls 3 Movie”!  And if that wasn’t enough, all three girls are working on solo projects in television, film and music!  Oh, and just so you know they’re still working the Cheetah vibe, they’ll be rerecording the fall album for the spring…in Spanish!  Ay! Que rico!

Fergie Don’t Cry

Aug. 30th, 2007

She did it!  Her latest single, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, has made its way to number one on more than one chart, making it her third single off her album “The Duchess” to do it!  It’s been a year since a female singer or band was able to top the Adult Top 40, so score one for grrrl power, too!  Between number one hits, playing with ‘the Peas’, and dating one of the cutest guys on television – Fergie’s fast becoming one of our ‘people we wish we could grow up to be’!  …Quick!  Someone come up with an acronym for that!

Nick Your Calendars!

Aug. 30th, 2007

Um, we mean mark them, of course!  September 16th marks Nickelodeon’s “Back-to-School Bash”, a night of Nick shows that you know and love, all filled with dancing!  Included are season premieres of “Just Jordan”, “Zoey 101”, “Unfabulous”, and also special extra-musical episodes of “iCarly” and “Drake & Josh”!  Can you stand it?  Getting it all started @ 6pm, will be fave Devon Werkheiser (from Ned’s Declassified) giving tips on surviving and succeeding at school dances, followed by Emma Roberts, Lil’ JJ, Miranda Cosgrove, Drake Bell, and Jamie Lynn Spears, all dancing the night away!  Some of the stars will even be hosting, giving tips on their moves.  What a night!

Zac and Vanessa in London...

Aug 29, 2007

...along with the rest of the HSM2 crew, including Monique, Lucas and Olesya!  They were busy plugging their ears and signing copies of the HSM2 Soundtrack at one of London's largest music stores, HMV.

In One Week

Aug. 29th, 2007

We will finally see what Britney Spears has been cooking up.  She’s taken quite a lot of time off performing and recording to get her family life in order – let’s hope it’s all coming together for the pop princess.  The single coming out next week is called “Gimme More” and is said to have been produced by Timbaland’s right-hand guy, Danjahandz.  Now, whether you can buy it or not, is another question.  It should be getting some radio play – at the very least for the curiosity factor!  We want to know: can she ‘do it again’?!?

Keyshia’s Triple Play

showimg2_400Aug. 28th, 2007

R&B star Keyshia Cole has done it!  She’s the first female singer to have three consecutive #1 hits as lead artist on a single!  First there was “I Should Have Cheated” in December of ’05, then “Love” in April ’06, and now that “Let It Go” has made the climb to number one, she’s officially triple-platinum!  Next week, she’ll be showing us her stuff, singing the National Anthem at the NFL season opener.  That’s Sept. 6th @ 8pm for the kick off!  Even if you aren’t a football fan, you can tune in for that much!

Jessica Shouts

showimg1_400_09Aug. 28th, 2007

On Sunday at the Teen Choice Awards, super hot Jessica Alba accepted the award for Choice Hottie, and took the time to thank the young boy who didn’t love her: Ross.  Apparently, he didn’t think she was good enough for him, but somehow, we’re betting he’s banging his head against a wall somewhere right now!  Good move, Jessica!  Now hopefully, all the guys out there will be warned!  That funky looking girl with a crush on you might just turn out to be an Alba-alike someday!  Be good to her now!

More HSM2!

Aug. 28th, 2007

But not until December 11th!  Seems Warner Brothers will release an extended version of the hugely popular movie, but you’ll have to wait for it!  The DVD will include never before seen scenes from the movie, music videos, sing-along and karaoke features …you’ll never get enough!  But can you stand the wait?!?

Teen Choices Chosen

Aug. 27th, 2007

Last night, music took a front seat at the Teen Choice Awards!  The voting teens honored the likes of Justin Timberlake, High School Musical 2 (Zac and Vanessa took home three Surfboards each!), John Travolta (who hasn’t been a teen for a while, but whatev!), Fergie, and Avril Lavigne, and more for a total of 30 awards in only a few short hours.  The Academy Awards could learn a little something from this super sonic show!  If you saw the show, chime in and let us know what you thought on today’s blog!  - The link is under ‘features’ in the nav bar!

Seacrest Overseas

showimg1_400_08Aug. 27th, 2007

Looks like Ryan Seacrest is going to do something that no one else has done in over fifteen years: have his radio show syndicated to the U.K.!  Now, this is not his usual LA station KIIS FM’s morning show, nor the syndicated show “American Top 40”, but a new show called “The Entertainment Edge”, and it will feature celebrity news and interviews as well as play the top charted music in the region.  Has anybody noticed that Ryan Seacrest works really, really hard?!?  No wonder he’s still single!

Sparks’ Tattoo, Lewis’ADD

showimg1_400_04Aug. 24th, 2007

Jordin Sparks just put out her first single, “Tattoo” for your listening pleasure, and Blake Lewis has signed with a label to put out his first album “ADD” or “Audio Day Dream” early next year.  In other “Idol” news, Fantasia has been burning up Broadway in the musical of “The Color Purple”.  The reviews are so good, they’re saying the show is better now than when it opened!  Now that’s something you don’t often hear!   Keep on Idolizing!

(photo:prphoto)

Beautiful Kingston

showimg1_400_05Aug. 24, 2007

And we're not talking about Gwen Stefani's adorable son!  For the fourth week in a row, Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” rocks on top!  The hit single is surely on it’s way to be the anthem of summer!  It seems to be holding against older songs like “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie, “The Way I Are” by Timbaland, and “Hey There Delilah” by the Plain White T’s.  Others movers are the singles from HSM2, which are doing great, but nothing to the number one album spot – seems most people are going for owning the whole enchilada!  Bought any new music lately?  Let us know what, and why at our blog!  Check for the link under ‘features’ in the Nav Bar above!

Kid Nation Causing Flap

Aug. 23, 2007

Even though the kids we talked to all had a blast and seemed to be happy about the growing up they did while filming the reality show “Kid Nation”, the critics are going to town.  A lot are claiming that the children were abused, and that the show could be in violation of child labor laws.  As for us, the kids we talked to were some of the smartest PEOPLE, young or old, that we have ever spoken to, and we’re pretty sure they wouldn’t have talked about how great things were if they were being abused!  Look out for more reports on the show in our next mag in September, and online once the magazine is out!  The show, so you can decide for yourself, premieres September 19th, and not the first, as we previously reported.

The In Crowd

Aug. 23, 2007

Looks like Mike Myers is gathering some old and new friends together for his next comedy, “The Love Guru”.  Fave Mini Me portrayer Vern Troyer will be on board, as well as Jessica Alba, and Justin Timberlake, with whom he worked most recently on Shrek the Third!  We guess Mike was impressed with JT’s work, because now he’s asking him to play Jacques Grande, a professional hockey player.  Do you think JT will sport an accent?!?  Once again, the man brings sexy back!

Ariel on Broadway

Aug. 23, 2007

We’re just a month away from the premiere of “The Little Mermaid” on Broadway, and we’re interested in checking it out!  Are you?  Sierra Boggess will be playing Ariel, and was discovered while playing Christine Daae in “Phantom of the Opera” in Las Vegas!  Looks like there might be a good reason for us to go to Vegas, even if we don’t drink, smoke or gamble!  If anyone has seen a preview of this show, go to our blog (you can find it under features in the navigation bar!) and spill the beans!

HSM2 is da Sales Bomb!

61lkjkuh4l._ss500__400

Aug. 22, 2007

No surprise to us, the soundtrack to HSM2 debuted at number one on the US pop charts, selling over 615,000 copies in its first week!  The first HSM soundtrack has sold a total of over 4.1 million copies…who knew there were that many birthday parties last year?!?  And maybe because Disney aired a new episode of Hannah Montana right after the movie last Friday, her album sales went up too, taking her from the fourth place she had dropped to back up to second place!   What a week, and summer, for Hollywood Records!

Happy Birthday Hayden!

showimg1_400Aug. 22, 2007

Yesterday was Hayden Panettiere’s 18 birthday, so the Heroes star did the most heroic thing she could think of:  she registered to vote!  Before her party at the LG Malibu Beach House, she stopped by the offices of Declare Yourself in Beverly Hills to register for her civic duty!  We’re not telling what party she declared herself, cause really, that doesn’t matter.  With the upcoming presidential primaries and elections, it’s pretty kewl that she is so psyched about getting involved and having her vote counted!  Make sure you put that on YOUR 18 birthday to-do list!

Rockin’ for Good

showimg1_400_01Aug. 21, 2007

If you’re around Irvine, California on October 27th, you might be lucky enough to go the first ever Girlfrenzy concert.  It’s a new concert featuring Avril Lavigne, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, and girlbands like Antigone Rising!  Some of the money earned at the event will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – Hey!  Those are two things we can get into supporting: Women’s health and children’s health!  If you’ll be in the area, tickets go on sale on August 25th!  Get frenzied!

The First 400

Aug. 21, 2007

The first 400 finalists in the Discovery Channel’s “Young Scientist Challenge” were announced today, and include middle school students from 44 states in the US.  From these lucky 400, a top 40 will be selected, and they will go to Washington, DC to compete in team style challenges, dealing with climate change, global warming and eco-friendly initiatives.  The entire thing is being called Operation Green, and is there to get those people involved in our planets health, who will be around to live on it – namely YOU!  To learn more about the contest, and to see a complete list of finalists, go to http://www.discovery.com/dcysc.

HSM2 Cleans Up!

Aug. 20,2007

Well, you all did it!  You made High School Musical 2 the most watched kids television program EVER!  Talk about records!  17.2 Million people were watching on Friday night alone, and that’s not counting the repeat on Saturday and Sunday’s sing-a-long!  Apparently 6.1 million of you age 6-11, and another 5.9 million aged 9-14 were tuned in!  Now that’s a lot of people!  Congrats, Wildcats!

More Zac to Come

Aug. 20, 2007

As early as Saturday, Zac Efron was spotted in a Hollywood café talking new scripts and projects!  He’s being fast-tracked on at least two more projects, including one produced by his real life sister!  Hairspray director Adam Shankman will be on board for at least one of them, too!  We’re just happy the Zac river will keep flowing for some time to come!

HSM 2 PREMIER

hsm2_pool_400

Aug  18, 2007

Well, did you see it? If you missed it, you might just want to lie low for a while!  But no worries, you can catch it again tonight . Don't forget that tonight is Wildcat Chat which means you can send in your questions and they just might be answered online. If you just can't seem to get in front of a TV tonight, then try again on Sunday as HSM2 airs again as part of a Sing Along. Go to disney.com for more details.

Close Enough To Touch!

Aug. 17, 2007

How will we get through the day?  This may feel like the longest day of the year, because it’s only a few short hours until High School Musical 2 premieres!  The info, in case you don’t have it memorized: 8pm, Disney Channel – be there, or just join them again for the Sing-A-Long on Sunday!  What a great weekend this is going to be!

Maroon Goes Green

showimg1_400_03

Aug. 17, 2007

For the band Maroon 5’s fall tour, one dollar from each ticket sold will go to Global Cool, and super kewl organization that promotes energy conservation as a means to fight global warming.  Frontman Adam Levine talked about the tour today during the group’s appearance on NBC’s Today Show, where they also performed their song “Wake Up Call” for the summer concert series!  It looks like it’s been one hottie summer in NYC!

Sabra KNOWS She Can Dance!

Aug. 17, 2007

Winner of this year’s “So You Think You Can Dance” television series is the super talented Sabra Johnson!  Selected out of the final four in a record breaking number of call in votes, this was a tight race, people!  All four of the dancers deserve props for getting this far…and honestly, all these folks can REALLY DANCE!  Congrats to you all!

Jonas’ Debut at #5

Aug. 16, 2007

The Jonas Brothers did it!  Came out of the starting blocks to grab the number 5 spot on the charts with their new self-titled album!  What a great birthday present that is! To make it happen, the guys have been super busy, touring to sold out crowds, and they’ll even be making a special appearance on “Hannah Montana” tomorrow – August 17th!  Plus, the new CD is not just a CD: it’s a totally new thing called a CDVU+, which has lots of video and hidden interactive content, and a package that is 100% recyclable!  Good job, guys!  It probably sounds good, too!

He'll be performing on stage tonight in Syracuse, New York and there may be a surprise or two for him during the performance tonight. Ssssshhhhh! It's a secret. Joe doesn't even know!

Kid Nation

kid_nation_400

Aug 15, 2007

Have you heard about the kewl-est new show coming out this fall?  Kid Nation is a reality show that puts 40 regular kids, and no adults, into a New Mexico ghost town, and challenges them to make a society that they can all live in, for 40 days!  We got to meet some of the kids who are going to be on the show, and over the next few months, you’ll be hearing more and more about them in our September issue and online!  The show premieres September 1st, so keep checking online for shout outs from the incredible kids who must survive on their own with no adult help!  It’ll be neat to see if they do a better job of shaping society than adults do!

Wake Up With Corbin!

corbin_400Aug. 15, 2007

Yep!  You can sign up for a wake-up call from Corbin Bleu!  And if that doesn’t get you to school on time, nothing ever will!  Your parents can sign you up for them, starting today, and everyday if they want, until September 15th!  Send them to www.HSM2WakeUpCall.com, where they can choose greetings from either Sharpay or Chad, program in the date, time and number to be called, and choose from different themes.  And the best part is, it’s free!!!!  Dreams can come true!

Is Clay Aiken Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

clay_400Aug. 15, 2007

It appears idol runner up  Clay Aiken will is signed on to take part in a celebrity edition of the popular game show “Are You Smarter Than a 5 th Grader?”  In this edition, the celebrities won’t be playing to win for themselves, but for charities they pick to receive all their winnings.  Good deal, right?  Well, it gets even better than that!  Even if Clay doesn’t win, a minimum of $25,000 will be donated to each star’s charity by the show’s producers!  Clay’s charity is one he even founded himself!  It’s called The Bubel/Aiken Foundation, and is committed to bringing a complete summer camp experience to children with developmental disabilities, and encourages other children’s organizations to move toward what they call ‘full inclusion’ for these kids in their recreational activity programs.  The season premiere for the show is September 6th, with an announcement about the celebrity edition date to follow later.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Aug. 15, 2007

Does your cellphone ever make you mad?  Mad enough to throw it?  How about throwing it over 95 meters?  That’s almost 104 yards!  Well, that’s how far Briton Chris Hughff (how does he say that?) threw a cell phone for the new world record (?) at the Mobile Phone Throwing Championships in Hampton Hill, UK.  The whole event was a fundraiser, and for 5 pounds (or about 10 dollars) each entrant was given three phones to hurl as far as they could.  That just sounds like so much fun!  And could be a great thing to do with old cellphones before they get recycled!

Own a Piece of Potter

Aug. 16, 2007

For the first time ever, professional photos from the set of the Harry Potter movies are available to buy!  A new website www.movieprints.co.uk is offering over 300 different pictures that you can have printed in any number of sizes, or even have them printed on to a canvas!  For those of us with smaller pocket books, postcard size images will also be available!  Check it out, but be aware: the site is in the United Kingdom, and all prices are in pounds, so you want to think about double what the numbers seem to be saying!  Get out your calculators!

hsm2_400

Aug. 14, 2007

Finally! The cast and director of High School Musical 2 will all be on hand today at California's Downtown Disney AMC to walk the red carpet, watch the movie, and party by the pool of the resort's hotel!  The rest of us will still have to wait until Friday night @ 8pm (as if you didn't already know!), so keep your patience intact and know that it IS COMING SOON!

The Idols are Recording!

jordin_400Aug 14, 2007

The top two, winner Jordin Sparks and runner up Blake Lewis have been hard at work recording their upcoming albums while on the road with “Idols Live”.  Using every available minute, they’ve been hard at work, in different cities and different studios, laying down tracks.  Jordin has recorded four tracks so far, while Blake is working on getting down 11 self-written tracks for what he calls, ”the album I’ve always wanted to make.”  As for the rest, Chris Richardson has been writing songs for both artists so far, and everyone else is waiting for the end of the month to find out if they’ll be recording as well.  We wonder what that depends on?!?

Do You Hip, or Hop?

Aug. 14, 2007

If you do either, then you’ll want to know about the new hip-hop and R&B artist search going on on MySpace!  The satellite radio station XM is sponsoring this contest, and the winner will perform at The Mix Show Power Summit in October!  All you have to do is submit an original song to get your chance at the top.  All the details are at www.myspace.com/xm , and while you’re there, you can check out our very own page at www.myspace.com/kewlmag!

Remember the Carpathia?

Aug. 14, 2007

Okay, but you do remember the Titanic, right?  Well, the Carpathia was the first ship to respond to the distress call when the Titanic sank, and was able to save 705 of the survivors that were floating in the North Sea.  Now, RMS Titanic, Inc. (the marine salvage company that is the only one with the right to conduct expeditions and take salvage from the Titanic) will make an expedition to investigate and recover items from the wreck of the Carpathia, which was torpedoed and sank during World War I.  There’s no word of an IMAX movie coming out of this yet, but wouldn’t that be kewl?!?

J-Lo goes English

j_lo_400_02

Aug. 13, 2007

Only six months after her acclaimed Spanish-language album “Como Ama Una Mujer”, Jennifer is coming out with an English-language album called “Brave”!  You may have already heard the first single off the album, “Do It Well” on the radio.  In her joint tour with hubby Marc Anthony this fall, she’ll be performing music off the new disc, so if you get to the concert first, you’ll hear it before it comes out in stores on Oct. 9th!  The tour starts in Atlantic City, NJ on Sept. 29th, and ends Nov. 2nd in Miami.

Real Life Dolls

Aug. 13, 2007

Both Hannah Montana and The Cheetah Girls are now available as dolls!  Yep!  You can have your very own dolls of the stars, and really say they’re hanging at your house!  And just in time for Miley’s fall concert tour!  How fun is that?!?  The best of all worlds, and cheetah-licious!

Globes Do Good!

Aug. 10, 2007

The Golden Globes are one of Hollywood’s most popular awards shows – do you know who gives them out?  The people behind the statues are the Hollywood Foreign Press Association…so basically all the journalists who cover Hollywood and the movies for foreign countries!  Most of the time, the actors and movies that win at ‘the Globes’ go on to take Oscar gold, too!   Well, they’ve decided to go one better: since the show has become so popular, they actually make money off of it, and have decided to give back to the community…to the tune of $1,200,425!!!  Past winners Charlize Theron, Hilary Swank and Jamie Foxx were on hand to help out, putting the glamour on giving!  Good job, guys!

Stardust Opens Today!

Aug. 10, 2007 If it wasn’t on your ‘to do’ list already, we just thought we’d remind you!  It’s getting good reviews, and along with a really handsome leading man, Charlie Cox, it promises quite a bit of action and romance, too!  And if you’re into comic books, then afterwards you can check out the graphic novel on which the movie is based!  We’re just excited about the live-action sword fighting!  Buckle us some swash!

Dear Amanda

1_amanda_bynes_400 Aug 8, 2007

Amanda Bynes is coming out with her own line of clothing!  As she’s been really rocking the red carpet lately for Hairspray, we’re pretty excited about what great stuff she might come up with for the rest of us to wear!  She had a preview party yesterday in NYC, and it looks like pretty comfy stuff: hoodies, shirts, skirts and bags.  The line, called Dear, will be available in Manhattan starting August 16th, and hopefully soon after where the rest of us live!  She’s also got a movie coming out in September called Sydney White and the Seven Dorks.  Sounds like she’s up to her usual fun!

11th Hour Premiere

dicap_leo_400

8/9/07

Leonardo DiCaprio’s new film The 11th Hour premiered last night in Los Angeles in black and white splendor.  The global crisis documentary has been Leo’s pet project, and even uses his own website to help you learn more about what’s going on, and what you can do to help save the earth for ourselves and future generations.  Toby Maguire, Kate Bosworth and Adrian Grenier were all on hand to help celebrate, and it certainly looks like they all got the memo!  Everyone was in black and white…except Leo!  He wore grey!  Like he needed to make an effort to stand out!  www.leonardodicaprio.com

Moonmen Attack!

8/8/07 Well…not really!  The MTV Video Music Awards has announced the nominees for this year!   Some of the stars up for the statues of little astronauts this year are Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Kanye West, Rihanna and Amy Winehouse, while many more have agreed to perform on the September 9th show: Fall Out Boy, Lilly Allen, Chris Brown and the Foo Fighters!  As usual, it’s something to see, and especially this year as they are adding some new categories to the night:  Artist of the Year (Male and Female), Most Earthshattering Collaboration, Monster Single of the Year, and the Quaduple Threat Award, which is for those artists who’ve busted a move in more than the usual ‘singing and dancing’ worlds.  What’s the catfight between Beyonce and Bono gonna look like?

The Miley/Hannah Show

miley_400_01Aug 8, 2007

Only grown-ups might be surprised when Miley Cyrus takes the stage for her concert tour this fall, only to be followed by her alter-ego, Hannah Montana.  They might even think they’re getting two stars for the price of one!  We won’t be fooled, but we will be in for a show that truly is ‘the best of both worlds’!  Just so things don’t get boring, she’ll have 54 concerts beginning October 18th in St. Louis, MO and finishing January 9th in Albany, NY.  And if that wasn’t kewl enough, her opening band every night is The Jonas Brothers!  Make sure you get there early and don’t miss a moment of the fun!

Music Makes You Watch…

kelly_400_03

Aug 7, 2007

Football?!?  That must be what the NFL is hoping!  Once again, they are doing a big opening concert for the football season opener, featuring John Mellencamp, Faith Hill and Kelly Clarkson!  On Sept. 6th is when the whole thing goes down on NBC.  It seems Mellencamp will be in the RCA Dome (where it’s the Colts vs. the Saints), while the ladies will be performing a free show at Monument Park.  In that case, the best seats  are in front of your TV!  Will all this musical star power make you watch football?

Do You Yo-Yo?

At this year’s World Championship, those that do showed it all!  Walk the dog?  That’s old hat around here!  When you get serious about yo-yo, you leave the string behind!  (We still can’t picture it, but that’s what they say!)  The ‘toys’ the competitors use aren’t the wood and string models of your mama’s childhood, but $50-$450 precision machines with all the latest technology involved.  In all divisions, Japan and the US dominated…but to see how, go to http://www.WorldYoYoContest.com and check out the action.

Powwow Wow!

If you’re in Washington D.C. this coming weekend, August 10-12, get yourself out to the National Powwow!  The National Museum of the American Indian is hosting, and the events will feature dancers, drummers, traditional foods and arts and crafts from hundreds of tribal nations spanning the US and Canada.  To find out more got to www.AmericanIndian.si.edu.  And if you aren’t in the area, go online and research the nearest tribe near you – they’ll be having a powwow of their own at least once a year, so check it out!  So kewl!

Let It Bleed?

In one of the creepiest partnerships we’ve heard of, the makers of Saw IV and The American Red Cross are joining forces for the national blood drive.   The idea leaves us kind of speechless, but apparently it’s working!  This is the fourth time the filmmakers at Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures have been involved, and the good outweighs the bad.  For film series that specializes in murder to have saved 112,500 lives with blood donations is not only ironic, but also impressive.  If you’re 17 or older, the blood drive is set to for Halloween, and the opening of the new movie – but since you can give every eight weeks, you’ve got time for a double!  As they say, “Give Til It Hurts”!

Of Thee i-Sing

So, you’ve got to have it, right?  The new tech gadget of the moment could be the i-Sing: an MP3 karaoke player!  It takes your favorite tracks, removes the original vocal, and lets you practice and record your own voice onto the track!  It sounds like a gas to us, but will it really help you get on American Idol, like its makers say?  We don’t know, but if it does, there are certainly going to be a lot of us on the show soon!  Can’t we just enjoy it without needing to be on TV?!?

Lyn-Z Takes Home The Gold

6_lynz_hawkins_400

(KEWL Magazine snapped this shot of Lyn-Z during our

exclusive interview, to be featured in our upcoming issue!)

X Games 2007: This weekend, Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins skated her way to Gold victory in Women’s Vert Skate. She landed two kickflips, knocking out even her toughest competition. . At age 17, she has already competed in 6 games and she boasts she has a lot more to go.

KEWL Magazine caught up with Lyn-Z a few days ago at her practice for the ESPN X Games 13. We asked Lyn-Z, objectively speaking, what her chances were of winning at X Games 13.

“My chances of winning I guess are pretty high. I’ve won in the past. I’ve got 2 silvers, a gold, a bronze and a silver in street. I guess that kind of gives some kind of expectations.”

When asked about her biggest competition for the X-Games, Mimi Knoop, Lyn-Z said,

“I don’t think there’s really a rivalry we just kind of skate and have fun together and push each other to skate better. Whoever’s really on it, whoever’s landing everything, will take it.” And take it she did after performing the winning combination off of the vert ramp... a  pair of kickflips. Lyn-Z continued, “As long as we’re all having fun and everyone’s skating their best, it’s really cool.”

And we think you’re pretty kewl too Lyn-Z! Look for more of Lyn-Z in our upcoming issue of KEWL Magazine!

Band Out of Bubble

The rock band Cartel, most recently known for their stint on MTV’s “Band in a Bubble”, is fine with life on the outside.  On the show, the band was living in a Plexiglas bubble in lower Manhattan for 20 days.  The band was on camera - either the show cameras or the remote cams for the website - 24 hours per day, while they wrote and recorded their next album.  The band is happy with what came out of the experience, claiming that the intense focus was a good thing for their creativity. They’re pretty sure MTV isn’t that pleased, though, as the band is “not a drama band”, and couldn’t be pushed into creating “Real World” type scenes among its band members.   The new album comes out of its own bubble on August 21st!

Daniel Radcliffe with a ‘Stache?!?

‘Fraid so!  Playing the part of Rudyard Kipling’s son Jack, and sporting World War 1 (or WWI) clothing and uniforms, little HP actually has a mustache!  Okay, so he turned 18 last month, but in all fairness, he still looks pretty young!  Rudyard Kipling is the man famous for having written the original Jungle Book story, as well as Riki Tiki Tavi, and a few other works set in the early 1900’s in colonial India.  In this TV movie, My Boy Jack, Daniel plays the son Kipling manages to get into the army, despite his having poor eyesight (guess he’ll still be working those specs!).  Jack goes missing in action and a search ensues that takes many years and miles to resolve.  Sounds like a good tear-jerker.  Still can’t get over the ‘stache, though!

Wait For It!

They’ve set the date for the release of the next Shrek film…and it’s May 21st, 2010!!!!  Do the math and figure out just how old we’ll all be by then!  Good thing is, Shrek movies just get better the older you get!  We’re still excited!

Today’s Movie Releases!

Everyone’s talking about the Bourne Ultimatum, starring Matt Damon and Erika Christensen.  The third in the Bourne series, this one is all about payback!  If action is not your cup of tea, there are three other films out there to tickle your fancy: for the romantic amongst you, try Becoming Jane, starring Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy.  It’s about the beginning of Jane Austen’s career as a writer, and even if James wasn’t so “hot” as the faun in Narnia, he certainly is looking good here!  For some girlish fun, try The Bratz Movie, to catch up on advice on how to fit in in a new high school.  And last but not least, Underdog will be there to keep you laughing and amazed at how funny a talking dog can be!  There a lot to see!  Better get going!

Let the Kat In!

After her glass-breaking debut on TRL yesterday, Bronx-Dominican Republic-Hoboken babe Kat De Luna has got a few more fans than before!  With a five octave vocal range (listen to your mom’s Mariah Carey records to hear what that sounds like), this 19 year old pop diva will be taking over the airwaves and downloads come August 7th, when her album 9 Lives drops!  Do you want to hear the Kat purr?

Did You Catch the HSM2 Stars?!?

The entire cast of HSM2 was on Good Morning America today!  And they gave dance lessons!  You didn’t catch it?!?  You still can!  Check out our Blog at blog.kewlmag.com where you can find a link to the video!  Then, after you’ve watched it, get back to the blog and leave your comments!  We want to know what you thought of the talk, the dancing, the questions (!?!), and well, just everything!

Kid Nation

Aug 2, 2007

Haven’t heard of it yet?  You will!  Imagine an empty town, and fill it with kids – no adults – and let them run it themselves!  That’s what the creators of this show have done, and it sounds pretty kewl!  We think the neatest thing about it, is that the kids manage to make a democracy work!  And probably learn a whole lot about responsibility and self motivation at the same time.  The best part?  Nobody get’s voted off.  The kids decide themselves if they want to stay or not!  Can’t wait for this to air, Sept 19th on CBS – and look out for our in depth article in the September issue of KEWL!

Rihanna tripped…

 Aug 2, 2007

rihamma_400…over her umbrella?!?  Well, there’s no real word on how she did it, but Rihanna was seen getting around LA on crutches, and later crutchless with one of those orthopedic moon boots on her right foot.  It didn’t slow her down for long, and hopefully she’ll be back dancing in no time!  Get well, Rihanna!

X Games Exclusive W/Ryan Sheckler

August 2, 2007

KEWL Magazine met up with street skateboarding champ Ryan Sheckler yesterday between practice for X Games 13. "It’s going to be a crazy contest here", says Ryan.  "I can’t wait, I’m really excited. Right now I’m 17. I definitely feel like one of the younger ones but I’ve been skating for so long, been doing these contests with these pros now that it’s not really that big of a deal. There are younger guys, like David Gonzalez, you know that are way younger than me and they’re coming up too so I think they'll feel like the young ones."Some athletes might be a bit wiggy over the 13 that distinguishes this event but not Sheckler. "It doesn’t really matter, it’s just a number." He's not superstitious except maybe when it comes to working hard. "I always got tons of new tricks that we’re working on"Who does he see as good competition? "Everyone. Everyone that’s in this contest is going to be top of their game. It’s gonna be pretty difficult to take it easy. I think that X Games is a really powerful one-oof contest. It goes to everyone. Everyone see it, everyone knows about the X Games. It’s really important. It’s a huge contest for skateboarding."Coverage of X Games 13 begins today and it will be the first time in either EXPN or X Games history that they will be going live, globally over 145 countries. And don't forget to tune into http://www.expn.com/ where you can watch 40 hours worth of streaming video.

It’s been a rumor for a long time now, and finally her people have given the go ahead to say it’s true!  There will be a baby Ritchie-Madden!  Even though Nicole is only the adopted daughter of music great Lionel Ritchie, somehow we think the men in that child’s life will turn it on to a musical path!  Congratulations Nicole and Joel!
