Happy Birthday, J.K.! July 31, 2008
We're just so happy that she was born, we can't express it! Forevermore, we can raise our wands to the sky, and let off bursts of sparks to rain down like fireworks, because she wrote us the books that made thinking of that possible! The hours of reading and watching enjoyment we have to thank her for! Can you stand it! Yay for you on your day J.K. Rowling! And we'll all sing a round of "Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy, Hoggy..." I'm sure someone out there knows the words better than we do! Sing it! (photo: pr photos)
Harry Potter VI Trailer is Out!
July 31, 2008 Just in time for J.K.’s Birthday! OMG! Have you seen it already?!? Creepy! And so fun! Even if most of us have read the books already, it’s always fun to see what the movie makers come up with. Special effects, creepy kids, visual twists, and what will the romantic twists be this time?!? Of course we all know, but isn’t it fun to see how our fave trio, now plus one, will get through it this time? Of course! On November 21st we’ll be first in line in our neighborhood!
Miley Over Sugar July 30, 2008 On this week’s Billboard Top 200, the queen bee in the top spot is teen queen Miley Cyrus herself! Beating out country music’s Sugarland for the win, her Breakout album sold more than 371,000 copies in the first week, making it her second #1 album, and second only to Mariah Carey’s newest album for a female artist this year. Go, Miley, Go! (photo: pr photos)
Bond Theme News July 30, 2008 For the first time, the theme song for the newest James Bond 007 film will be sung as a duet! American artists Jack White and Alicia Keys will double on the song written and produced by White (of The White Stripes) called “Another Way To Die”. The entire soundtrack the newest film, “Quantum Solace”, is due to hit stores October 28th, a little over a week before the film is released on November 7th. The countdown begins! (photo: pr photos)
MTV Noms July 29, 2008 MTV has announced the nominations for this year’s top VMAs (or Video Music Awards), and it looks like the competition will be tough! This year, the nominations are being based on fan votes coming in through their website and text messaging. The first two categories to be decided were best female and best male video, with nods going to Britney Spears, Jordin Sparks, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, T.I., Flo Rida and Usher. Each week there will be two new categories to vote in to make sure your faves get the nominations they deserve. If you go to vma.mtv.com now, you can vote on nominees for best hip-hop and best pop video! …But get your parents permission first! The 2008 VMAs are taking place on Sept. 7th at 9pm at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood. Now go get your vote on! (photo: pr photos)
No Miley/Selena Feud July 29, 2008 Like we even believed it! Selena denied all rumors about a fight between her and fellow teen star Miley Cyrus. “I actually got Miley’s new CD. I really like her CD.” It’s even on her iPod! There are lots of stresses and pressure just being in the spotlight like she is, but that doesn’t mean that these rumors are true. She told TV’s Extra! “Everywhere you go you hear things that are untrue…You just got to learn that if I don’t say it, physically out of my mouth, on camera, it’s not true.” All the video shout-outs and call-outs are all in good fun, from one group of talented, creative teens to another. They play out other people’s drama all the time…why not get to write some of it themselves?!? And still, acting is always make-believe! (photo: pr photos)
Come On ComiCon! July 28, 2008 This past weekend, San Diego was taken by storm by the Nerds of the Nation! ComiCon, the largest comic book, sci-fi, fantasy convention in the world took place, hosting over 125,000 fan boys and fan girls all coming out to get the latest and the greatest in all things comic book related! Whether it’s sneak preview of Lost, or Heroes, or X-Men: Wolverine, or even the most buzzed about movie in the teen scene, Twilight, fans were loud and proud about their love of all things geeky! Along with comic book companies, freebies and sneak peeks were given out by movie and TV companies, personal appearances by actors, personalities and the artists themselves make it a weekend well worth going to! Who doesn’t want their picture taken on a unicorn or to get the original Incredible Hulk’s autograph, right?!? And the best part is, most fans go in costume, too! Can’t wait for the photos to hit!
Ryan the Golfer?!? July 28, 2008 As a whole new generation becomes fans of golf, Ryan Sheckler will host the first annual X Games Celebrity Skins Classic golf tournament in Palos Verdes, California. From skate-board champ to golf maven? Sounds crazy, but the celebrities on hand will be golfing for a good cause. The Sheckler Foundation funds medical research that focuses on curing childhood disease and it will fund enrichment programs for children in low income areas, as well as programs to help athletes injured in their own line of work. Other celebs expected to attend are Kevin Federline, Brody Jenner, Mia Hamm, Bode Miller and Audrina Patridge…Hey! Are there any golfers showing up? To find out more, go to http://www.shecklerfoundation.org/sheckler-foundation.html. (photo: pr photos)
Happy Birthday, James! July 25, 2008
Today, this One Tree Hill hottie turns 23! Other than still portraying Nathan Scott on the long-running hit show, this actor has also been hard at work on the sequel to the cult classic movie Donnie Darko which starred Jake Gyllenhaal. The new one focuses on his little sister Samantha, now all grown up, and going through similar 'strange' things. It'll be called S. Darko, and along with James will also star Justin Chatwin, Ed Westwick, Daveigh Chase, Elizabeth Barkley, Matt Davis and Briana Evigan. This is definitely a sci-fi thriller, so make sure that's your thing before heading out to see this one sometime next year! For now, we just want more James! Happy Birthday! (photo: pr photos)
Happy Birthday, Jillian!
July 25, 2008 Happy Sweet Sixteen! Actress Jillian Clare is celebrating her Sweet Sixteen in style tonight! At an undisclosed location (unless your invited...like KEWL is!) Jillian will be hosting her "Masquerade in Paris" sweet sixteen birthday party on a boat cruising the California coast with all of her friends...who just happen to be most of the working teen actors and actresses in Hollywood! KEWL will be on hand to report on all the fun, so be sure to check out kewlmag.com and the September issue of the magazine for the inside scoop! Jillian's party isn't just for her this year, either! She is making it a benefit for her favorite charity APe Action(Animals, People & Environment Action), and especially their educational programs for children. We think that's pretty kewl! Using her birthday for good! Have a great birthday! (photo: pr photos)
Happy Birthday, J-Lo! July 24, 2008
Jennifer has had a pretty exciting life, but an even more exciting year! Along with releasing albums in both Spanish and English, and starring in a movie with her latin superstar husband Marc Anthony, they also had a co-production of another kind: Twins! Now, the couple is spending the summer months touring Europe, and looking, well, FABULOUS! We're only a little jealous! With five up and coming projects in which she either acts, or acts as producer, or both, we're just wondering when we can expect some new tunes from the songstress! Happy Birthday, and here's to another productive year! (photo: pr photos)
Happy Birthday, Daniel! July 23, 2008
And like magic, our dear little Harry Potter is 19 years old! Not many actors can boast of completing 6 feature films before their 19th birthday, but this young actor doesn't just have the Potter series under his belt - altogether, he has starred in ten movies, beginning with the role of young David Copperfield when he was only ten years old! His next release will be Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, followed by the rumored two Parts of the 7th and final book, plus another movie set to come out next year about the life of a Kenyan born photographer covering the unrest in Somalia in 1992. We've seen pictures of this, so it can't be far away! Have a very Happy Birthday, Daniel! (photo: pr photos)
Miley's Breakout CD!
July 22, 2008 You're probably already listening to it as you read this! Miley's Breakout CD hit stores today and sales are expected to set new records. There are somany fantabulous tracks to choose from! 1. Breakout 2. 7 Things 3. The Driveway 4. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun 5. Full Circle 6. Fly On The Wall 7. Bottom Of The Ocean 8. Wake Up America 9. These Four Walls 10. Simple Song 11. Goodbye 12. See You Again
Jessica Names It
July 22, 2008 It is on! Jessica Simpson has finally set a release date for her new country album, and has given it a name, too! The first attempt by the former pop princess to enter the ranks of country music’s elite will be called “Do You Know”, and will hit stores on September 9th. The first single from that album, “Come On Over”, which has surprised many a non-believing DJ across America, is steadily climbing the country charts. Maybe Jess has finally found a place to call home in this crazy world of celebrity. She has easily out done anyone else by conquering every kind of media there is: popstar, reality star, movie actress and just plain media frenzy focal point…what else is left? Hopefully she’ll find her home sweet home in country! (photo: pr photos)
Happy Birthday, Selena!
July 22, 2008 Are all wizards born this week? Well, this one certainly was! You already know her well as Alex Russo from the hit TV series The Wizards of Waverly Place, but she's got a ton more kewl projects coming your way in the next year! She's shot some upcoming episodes of Hannah Montana playing Mikayla (maybe this is where the feud rumors sparked from?), she already finished filming on the romantic comedy Another Cinderella Story which also stars Andrew Seeley (the guy who took Zac's place on the HSM live tour!) which comes out September 4th, and she also hard at work on the Disney TV movie Princess Protection Agency with her best friend Demi Lovato! Since she also sang the theme song for her hit show, we're wondering when we can get more songs from this super sweet actress! Happy Birthday, Selena! (photo: pr photos)
Jonas and Slipknot?!?
July 21, 2008 A stranger combo of musicians, and music groupies, could hardly be imagined, but it’s exactly what was on the bill for Pete Wentz’s new show FNMTV. The show is Pete’s way of getting back to the oldschool MTV approach of debuting music videos on the channel that used to be all about that! But to keep up with the times, they’re also doing a live performance in front of fans to keep things real. The show taping Friday night mixed the Jonas Brothers with Slipknot, and the music, and the fans, could not have been at more opposite ends of the spectrum! Some of the Jonas fans got a little worried as the masked lead singer of Slipknot paced the pit holding a baseball bat, but it was all part of the show, and in the end, music is what everybody came for! Here’s to more crazy combos and wild acceptance of other people’s taste in music! Cheers! (photo: pr photos)
Miley Tires of Paparazzi
July 21, 2008 Despite the fact that Miley is always all smiles for the photographers, she has recently admitted to being a little tired of the attention. She told Extra! that, “At first I kind of always wanted it…then once it started happening to me it’s not so cool anymore.” Remember that, KEWLreaders, when you dream of fame and fortune! The star had a busy end of last week, finishing up filming some live performance scenes in Santa Monica and then jetting off to New York to perform live in the park for Good Morning America, and making an appearance on TRL too! Hopefully we’ll get to see her just chillin around the hood soon – girl deserves a little break for summer, no? (photo: pr photos)
Music Bonding! July 19, 2008 It must be golden oldies season on some secret but very official calendar, as this weekend the musical ‘Mamma Mia!’ opens in theatres in the US. The show is a modern tale based around the music of the 70s Swedish super-group ABBA. A young girl whose ultra-feminist single mother was a singer in the 70s is getting married, and she wants her real father to give her away. Only problem is, she’s not sure which one of three guys that her mom dated back in those wild times is the one. She invites all three, and the music and madness ensue! The music is so ultra-pop, that once you hear it, it may never leave your brain, so may as well start dancing to it now, you ‘Dancing Queen’! Let the mother/daughter bonding begin! (photo: pr photos)
NKOTB!
July 19, 2008 This is a boy band that you and your parents can share! New Kids on the Block were the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus of their time, all rolled into one band. So if you want to find a band with new and retro tunes that both you and your mom can bop til you drop to, check out some behind the scenes action on the video shoot for their new single ‘Summertime’! Jordan, Jon, Joey, Donnie and Danny are back, in the studio and on tour, and you can already get ‘Summertime’ on iTunes so you can sing along with every move in the new video! The whole album will hit the streets on September 2nd, and you can catch them on tour, too, for a little mother/daughter bonding time!!! Go to our videos section soon, and you can catch all the behind the scenes action of shooting the new video in the beaches and canyons of Malibu and Topanga! Then you’ll know why ‘Summertime’ and ‘Southern California’ go together so well! Here are the tour dates – hopefully somewhere near you! Happy Birthday, Chace! July 18, 2008
And now for the hot side of today's birthday news, we give you Chace Crawford! This Gossip Guy catapulted onto the scene with the hottest new show of last year. Other than giving us many reasons to smile each week by showing up to all sorts of celebrity events, filming more blogtastic episodes for the next season of Gossip Girl, and with a Holloween haunt movie coming for the scariest of holidays, he hasn't had time to do much else...wait a minute! That was a lot! Enjoy your 23rd birthday, Chace! (photo: pr photos)
Happy Birthday, Kristen! July 18, 2008
This is one busy actress! Not only does she have four films ready to roll out over the next year, but she was just in one of this year's comedy hits "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", but she has a regular uncredited role on Gossip Girl (do you know what it is?!?), and has been known to show up as Hero Elle Bishop from time to time! And, of course, there is always fan-talk that her series Veronica Mars will be brought back...someday...! Here's to all the fun we're sure to be having with a seriously smart and funny actress. Happy 28th, Kristen! (photo: pr photos)
Jesse and Jordin!
July 17, 2008 The next big summer tour coming your way this year will be Jesse McCartney and Jordin Sparks! Calling the tour “Jesse & Jordin Live”, the pair will hit the road beginning August 5th in Sacramento, California and visit 18 major cities on their way. Most exciting right now for Jesse, is that his single “Leavin’” has just taken over the number one spot on the top 40 charts! He even beat out Katy Perry and Rihanna! Congratulations, Jesse! Along with swooning along to Jordin’s hit “No Air” (Hey! Wonder if Jesse will sing the Chris Brown part?!?), you’ll also get a chance to hear Jesse’s version of “Bleeding Love”, which he co-wrote for himself, but gave up to the gods of music so that Leona Lewis could make a huge world hit out of it. You can also check Jesse performing “Leavin’” live on Jay Leno on July 25th. Here’s the complete tour so you know what to start begging your parents for: Tue-Aug-05 Sacramento, CA Sacramento Community Center Theatre Thu-Aug-07 Los Angeles, CA Orpheum Theater Fri-Aug-08 Glendale, AZ Jobing.com Arena (Theatre Set-Up) Sat-Aug-09 San Diego, CA Humphrey's Concerts By the Bay Mon-Aug-11 Salt Lake City, UT Abravanel Hall Wed-Aug-13 Denver, CO Ellie Calukins Opera House Fri-Aug-15 Minneapolis, MN The State Theater Sat-Aug-16 (solo) Chicago, IL Park West Sun-Aug-17 Detroit, MI Royal Oak Music Theatre Tue-Aug-19 New York, NY NOKIA Theatre - Times Square Wed-Aug-20 Lowell, MA Lowell Memorial Auditorium Fri-Aug-22 Atlantic City, NJ The Ballroom at Boardwalk Hall Sat-Aug-23 Sewell, NJ Commerce Bank Arts Centre Sun-Aug-24 Pittsburgh, PA Benedum Center for Performing Arts Wed-Aug-27 Toronto, ON Sound Academy Fri-Aug-29 Washington, DC DAR Constitution Hall Sat-Aug-30 Greensboro, NC War Memorial Auditorium (photo: pr photos)
ESPY Madness July 17, 2008 Just in case you’re the kind of girl who is a big sports fan, you aren’t going to want to miss the broadcast of the annual ESPN Espy Awards on Sunday, July 20th @ 9pm. Justin Timberlake hosts, and by the look of the preview pix, he’s having the time of his life! He sings. He dances. He tells jokes?!? Yep – and looking at the teasers on TV for the show, he’s pretty good at all three! You don’t even have to be a sports head to watch this show though, as everyone from Sophia Bush to Zac Efron was there at the filming and on the red carpet at the Nokia Center in downtown Los Angeles last night! And Zac even brought his little brother along for the fun! Good guy! (photo: pr photos)
Miley Goes BiCoastal July 16, 2008 It’s gotta be kinda tiring: For the past few weeks, we’ve had Miley spottings all over the LA area while she’s busy shooting her upcoming Hannah Montana movie, including yesterday when our KEWL photographer Eric was on hand for filming on the Santa Monica Pier! Now we hear that she’ll be performing Friday morning in New York’s Bryant Park for the Good Morning America summer concert series! You think she’ll even get a day off to get there? Or a day or two in NYC to see the sights and enjoy herself just a little? Probably not. The life of an actress/singer/superstar is not one with many lazy days in it! We wish her lots of energy and a great flight – and if you’re in New York, you just know where you gotta be Friday bright and early!!! (photo: pr photos)
Music News July 16, 2008 Just a few new album notes for your hungry ears: Jennifer Hudson’s new self titled album (that means it’ll just be called “Jennifer Hudson”) will be ready for back-to-school time in September, while her first single off the set will be available for your listening pleasure as soon as August 10th! Our girl has been playing live dates all over the country this summer, most recently joining Fantasia Barrino on stage during the “Taste of Chicago” food and music festival. She looked great and gave it her all, and all in that famous Chicago summer swelter! Good on ya, Jennifer! (photo: pr photos)
Sesame’s Kewl July 15, 2008 The pre-school TV show of choice is incredibly kewl considering its audience…but then again, it always has been. Ever since the beginning of the show in 1969 (that’s right!), they’ve had some of the kewlest guest stars in the music and acting business dropping in to help educate the little ones. So kewl, in fact, that some of us have been tuning in when we’re way to old for it, just to catch the magic. And this year is no different! Already on tap to rock the show this season are Jack Black, Jessica Alba, David Beckham, Heidi Klum, Neil Patrick Harris, Jenny McCarthy and to kick it all off, the season opener will feature Feist in a duet of the song “Songs” with none other than Elmo! Again! Again! (photo: pr photos)
Roxy on DVD!
July 15, 2008 Today is the first day you can get your own copy of the all new Nickelodeon movie “Roxy Hunter and the Secret of the Shaman” starring Aria Wallace! Serenity Falls has always been a city that needed a little extra help in the mystery-solving department, so thank goodness Roxy Hunter lives there! This DVD has tons of the best kind of features, like behind the scenes ‘making of’ video, a blooper reel and two music videos sung and performed by Aria herself! So find out how Roxy and her best friend boy genius Max solve the crime and save the day this time! Release date: Today! July 15th.
Big, Bad Ts July 14, 2008 The new album from the Plain White Ts is due to come out on September 23rd, and front man Tom Higginson promises something very different from their past albums. The album will be called “Big, Bad World”, and though there are already rumors about a new single called “Natural Disaster” and an acoustic, Delilah-like song called “1, 2, 3, 4”, the entire sound of the album will be leaving behind the guitar scrubbing sounds of their past, and moving into a more complex and melodic place. "We tried to make more of a record that an adult can pick up and love track-for-track, the same as a teenager could or even a younger kid could," he continues. "We tried to make it with a little less boundaries and more open for anyone's ears." Well, we’ll see on September 23rd! (photo: pr photos)
Little Pitts are Here! July 14, 2008 Okay! This time we can believe it! The AP reported it, and even tell us that the mayor showed the press the birth-certificates. Little Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt were born Saturday evening in Nice, France. The whole family is reported to be happy and doing well, though the older siblings have not yet met their new brother and sister. Let us hope that this is finally the real story! If only for Angelina’s sake! How many times can she give birth to twins in one summer anyway?!? (photo: pr photos)
Miley Shoots July 15, 2008 Miley has been hard at work filming in and around LA this week for her next big Hannah Montana movie. And the paparazzi has been there for all of it! Good thing Miley doesn’t let them get her down. She’s been filming out at the beach in Malibu and shopping in Beverly Hills – both as Hannah and her regular teen flip-side Miley Stewart – and all the time smiling and waving at the photographers who are following the production everywhere it goes. The new film will feature all the regular cast of the TV show, with the addition of Vanessa Williams from “Ugly Betty” in the role of Hannah’s power-publicist. Other rumored guest stars are Heather Locklear, Taylor Swift, and Dolly Parton. Of course, we’re all waiting for another JoBro appearance, too! Aren’t we? (photo: pr photo)
Tribute
July 11, 2008 Even though the irreverent rockers Tenacious D (Jack Black and his ueber-talented friend Kyle Gass) always sing their song ‘Tribute’ as a joke, this time they’ll be doing it for real! Tomorrow at UCLA’s Pauley Pavillion (same place the Nick Awards take place!) the greats of rock will get together for VH1’s Rock Honors tribute to The Who. You might not have heard of them yet, but you are in for a treat. Pearl Jam, the Flaming Lips, Incubus and the Foo Fighters are all going to be on hand as well to sing covers of the classic band’s music, and The Who is even doing a set together to end out the show. Kewl! The show tapes tomorrow, but you can catch it on VH1 on July 17th @ 9pm.
A Web Musical?
July 11, 2008 The creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Joss Whedon, has gotten together with a few of his famous funny pals, and created something entirely new! He’s created “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” as a three act comedic musical about an evil doctor doing his darndest to get into the Evil League of Evil. And it’s all set to music or sung. Dr. Horrible is played by Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), his nemesis is played by the gorgeous (sorry!) Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Desperate Housewives) and the love interest is played by Felicia Day (Buffy). The whole point of this lovely little gift is to find out if showing content online for free while selling advertising on the site actually makes enough money so that everyone involved can continue to make some money. This is one of the sticking points that lead to the Hollywood writer’s strike last year, and could lead to an actor’s union strike as well. Joss paid for this little experiment himself, but we just can’t wait to see it! ‘Act 1’ streams on Tuesday at DrHorrible.com!
Happy Birthday, Adrian! July 10, 2008
This Entourage hottie is getting all grown up! This hard working, and super popular actor, writer, director and producer is turning 32 today! Wow! Guess we still like him for all the sweet sensitive teen types he played in the past...and we're still rewatching like crazy cakes on cable! Other than the two documentaries he's been working on about the mad relationship between the stars and the paparazzi, his latest film has been playing the festival circuit since it's debut at Sundance in January. We wish him the best of luck! (photo: prphotos)
Happy Birthday, Jessica! July 10, 2008
This newly re-invented country girl now has a new year to celebrate as well! Her debut country single has country DJs all over America pleasantly surprised, and she still has offers coming in from Hollywood for upcoming movie projects. She's also quite clearly still dating Football star Tony Romo, despite the gossip rags always trying to pretend that they are all washed up. This girl just can't be kept down! Happy 28th Birthday, Jess! (photo: pr photos)
Happy Birthday, Mitchel!July 9, 2008 The Hannah Montana star, and soon to be a music star in his own right, is turning 17 today! He's currently busy filming the new Hannah Montana Movie, set to come out sometime next year. When he's not busy being Oliver "Smokin'" Oken, he's following his hearts desire and becoming the best rap artist he can! His version of the old-skool tune "Lean on Me" was used on the Soundtrack for the film "Snowbuddies" starring Jim Belushi. Keep up the good work Mitchel, and Happy Birthday!
(photo: pr photos)
Happy Birthday, Kiely! July 9, 2008
This Cheetah Girl will surely be having a Cheetah-licious day today! Her new movie with the rest of the girls "The Cheetah Girls: One World" will be coming out to a TV set near you on August 22nd, the same day her first non-Disney feature film comes out too! And she's turning 22 too! With that many 2's in her future, she's sure to have twice the birthday fun! Have a happy happy day, Kiely! (photo: pr photos)
Chicago Has Good Taste July 8, 2008 This past weekend, those lucky enough to be in the Chicago area had a once in a lifetime chance: Both Aly & Aj and Keke Palmer played the bandstand in Grant Park! The entire festival was called “Taste of Chicago”, and along with featuring the foods of local eateries for festival goers enjoyment, there was a heck of a lot of music going on too! Also on the stand over the long holiday week were Fantasia Barrino and Jennifer Hudson, along with plenty of local acts from all corners of Chicago’s multi-ethnic scene. If you have a “Taste of …” in your area of the world, out only advice is, “GO!” Loads of fun and trying of foods, and what’s not to love about opening up your eyes, ears, taste-buds and mind?!? (photo: pr photos)
Baby Bump July 7, 2008 Well, once again, it is NOT Anglina Jolie who has had her babies, but Nicole Kidman has…well, she didn’t have Angelina’s babies, but her own singular baby with husband Keith Urban in Nashville, Tennessee. The report has it that their new daughter is named Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban, and that she was born this very morning. Welcome to the world, little one! (photo: pr photo)
Demi on Regis and Kelly July 7, 2008 We so hope you recorded this! Demi sang her big song “This Is Me” from Camp Rock live on Regis and Kelly this morning…and she rocked! Way more vocal stylings than you hear in the movie or on the soundtrack, which gives us an idea of why Disney is so confident about this new teen star! She has a ‘Jonas-alike’ backing band, but started the tune off true to form by playing it on piano herself. And you thought those piano lessons would never lead to anything! Just look at Demi and Alicia Keys, and get back to practicing! And don’t forget – this coming Sunday the 13th @ 8pm is the Disney special Camp Rock: Behind the Scenes, starring all the stars of the movie and hosted by the Jonas Brothers. Who still says the 13th is bad luck?!? (photo: pr photo)
Happy 4th of July!!!!!

Fireworks are an important part of celebrating Independence Day. It is the day of our nation's birth, the day we became an independent of British rule and the day our Declaration of Independence was approved back in 1776.
Fireworks date back 1,000 years ago to China. Historians agree that it was the Chinese who accidentally first invented the black powder...a mix of potassium nitrate sulfer and charcoal and created the first pyrotechnic explosion!
The Chinese viewed fireworks with religious meaning, using its sound to ward off evil spirits. Eventually fireworks were used for significant events like births, weddings and funerals.
In 1870, Independence Day became a recognized holiday but it wasn't until 1938 when Congress voted it in as a legal holiday, which meant workers could enjoy the day and still get paid!
So enjoy the day and remember some basis safety rules for viewing fireworks!
1. Do not let your little bro or sis play with fireworks! Firecrackers, rockets, and sparklers are very dangerous. 2. Buy only legal fireworks and store them in a cool, dry place. If your fireworks don't list the manufacturer’s name or have an instruction label, they're probably illegal. Illegal fireworks usually go by the names M-80, M100, blockbuster, or quarterpounder. 3. Never try to make your own fireworks. Buy ready-made fireworks rather than making your own, even from a kit. 4. Choose fireworks that are appropriate for the area. Avoid using rockets or other aerial fireworks in the backyard of a residential area. Choose fountain-type fireworks instead. 5. Steer clear of others. Fireworks have been known to backfire or shoot off in the wrong direction. Avoid carrying fireworks in your pocket, as the friction could set them off. 6. Keep a bucket of water and a hose nearby. Soak all fireworks in a bucket of water before throwing them away and keep a hose nearby in case dry leaves or other materials catch on fire. 7. Light one firework at a time and never relight a dud. If a firework doesn't appear to work, do not go over to it or attempt to relight it. Stand back and wait and then douse it with water. 8. Think about your pet. Animals have sensitive ears and can be extremely frightened or stressed by fireworks. Keep your pet indoors to reduce the risk that it will run loose or get injured.
Katy vs. JoBros July 3, 2008 Is it smackdown time?!? Sort of! The “I Kissed a Girl” singer is still atop the Hot 100 chart, and a few other charts as well this week, but with some strong competition from the Jonas Brothers debut single “Burnin’ Up”. That track came out strong as number 5 on the chart, making it the strongest opening for a single since FOB’s “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” came in at #2 in it’s debut week. Who else is in the top ten? Check the breakdown below: - Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl
- Lil Wayne – Lollipop
- Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love
- Rihanna – Take a Bow
- The Jonas Brothers – Burnin’ Up
- Coldplay – Viva La Vida
- Plies, feat. Ne-Yo – Bust It Baby Pt. 2
- Chris Brown – Forever
- Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas – This Is Me
- Natasha Bedingfield – Pocketful of Sunshine

Shakira to Go Live?
July 2, 2008 Just like Madonna and The Jonas Brothers before her, Shakira may be in line as the next hot recording artist to sign a multi-million dollar deal with concert promoter Live Nation. These new “360-degree deals”, are Live Nation’s new to the recording business idea, where everything from touring to merchandising to recording, are all supported by the same company. Shakira is currently signed to Epic Records, and owes them two more albums under that deal, but she could get them out by the end of the year and be ready to enter into a new deal with Live Nation by 2009. How will this change the recording industry? As of yet, no one knows, but the recording industry is adjusting to meet the needs of its new customers and the many new music platforms that are available today. Hopefully for us, this just means more Shakira more of the time! (photo: pr photos)
Kristy Lee is Cook-in’ July 1, 2008 Remember Kristy Lee Cook? She was the American Idol top ten finalist who was a standard feature of the bottom two, but managed to hang on for weeks despite that? Well, the powers that be have decided that all that had to do with was not having the right producer. It has been announced now that Cook has signed with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville, and will be working with Jessica Simpson’s writer/producer Brett James. Sounds like a good plan, as nobody expected much from Jess’s turn to country, and now everyone is loving it in spite of themselves! She’ll be pretty busy this summer, touring with the Idols Live show and recording songs for her album in between. But fans won’t have to wait too long to hear her again on the radio – she’s releasing her first single “15 Minutes of Shame” in August! What a great title! Congratulations, Kristy Lee! Congratulations Angelina?!? July 1, 2008 Well, this is the second time there are rumors that Angelina Jolie has given birth to her twins in the south of France this morning…do we believe them? The last time, the reports were so detailed, that they seemed like they had to be true! Now, there are almost no details, but much closer to the original due date. What are people to do? We’ll just keep sending good thoughts to mother and babies until we get the official word, which could be any time in the next two weeks or so. Um…congratulations anyway? (photo: pr photos)
