After lead singer Thurston Moore made a casual comment that he and the band were going into the studio to record a cut for an upcoming Starbucks compilation album, the indie fans started blogging out their disgust.  Though they are the poster children of all things indie, Moore says it’s not different from recording for a big record label, and he likes the irony.  He’s also happy for the opportunity to reach some people who otherwise wouldn’t find their music.  What do you think?  Reaching out, or reaching pockets?  Tell us what you think on our blog at

Hilary Rocks her Dignity!

This morning on the Today Show, the parade continued!  Hilary Duff performed her hit stranger, and explained in an interview with Meredith Viera that she wishes she had a formula for not getting into trouble as a young starlet!  All she knows is that acting that way wouldn’t be normal for her.  You go, girl!  Props to one girl out there who is keeping her “Dignity”!

Oh, wait, we’re not cooking the rats!  The rats are cooking!  Well, the rat, at any rate!  Pixar’s new “Ratatouille” opens today, and it’s getting rave reviews!  The movie phone guy wants to give it Best Picture!  Can you believe it?  It’s directed by the same guy who did “The Incredibles”, Brad Bird, so you know you’re gonna like it, too!  Something good for kids and their grown-ups to enjoy this summer, that doesn’t involve explosions!  Sounds nice!

Our own Veronica Mars is not letting the cancellation of her TV series slow her down one bit!  She’s been out and about filming scenes for her new movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” in LA and Hawaii, and soon, she’ll be the narrating voice of CW’s fall show “Gossip Girl” based on the book series and starring  Blake Lively!  Nothing can slow her down!

Emotional BET Awards

The three hour awards show last night that featured more performances than awards –now that’s a show! – became emotional in its tributes.  Former Supreme Diana Ross was given a lifetime achievement award, and there were tributes to R&B crooner Gerald Levert and the “godfather of soul” James Brown, both of whom died in the past year.  Both Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce took home two awards each, and Hudson even sang a duet with the woman who created her Oscar-winning role on Broadway – Jennifer Holliday!  Black Power was alive and proud last night!

It sure will!  This year event will feature tons of stars who blend the best of both worlds: Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson…it’s like they picked up KEWL Magazine and started calling people!  Unless you just happen to be in New York City on Sept. 6th, you can catch it on CBS on Sept. 8th!  The organizers are promising some unexpected duets and song choices, just to keep us on our toes!

 On TRL yesterday, Shia LeBouf explained how, on the set of Transformers, they would use tennis balls on the end of long sticks to stand in for the robots, which would later be put in with special effects.   Watching the show, you’d think he got a little too friendly with one of his co-stars!  When handed a tennis ball on a stick, he re-enacted a full-on love scene, including rolling around on the floor!  Of course, it was just a joke, but Shia’s such a good actor, sometimes it’s hard to tell when he’s kidding?!?

Paris Is Free!

After a 3 week stay in LA county jail, Paris Hilton is released!

She checked into the jail late June 3 after her surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards.

According to reports, Hilton smiled as she left the jail, her hair braided down her back, as her parents, Kathy and Rick, waited for her in their black SUV. Paris waved to the crowd of photographers and "fans" but kept quiet.

Paris completes her probation in 2009 as long as she doesn't have any more incidents. If she's really good and does community service, she can reduce her probation by 12 months. Paris' probation could include a public service announcement which means we would all get to see her "doing good" on tv.

Hilton has apparently learned a lot from her 3 week stay in jail. ABC posted on their site a quote from Hilton taken from her phone interview with Barbara Walters. Paris said, "I used to act dumb. It was an act. I am 26 years old, and that act is no longer cute. It is not who I am, nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who looked up to me."

With all of her celebrity status, wealth and power, let's hope that Paris really decides to turn her life around and start making those young girls that look up to her proud. If she puts her resources, her mind and heart towards some greater cause, she could definitely help make some positive changes to our society.

Don't believe a word of it!  At least not without really thinking it through... We didn't even want to report this as it's so obvisouly a rumour but we realize that people often believe what they read. So  let's use this news story as an example and let's dissect this so that you can decide for yourself if you still believe it.  Here is the news item that is being reported all over the place...   

"High School Musical stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens have reportedly ended their real-life romance after a dream vacation turned into a nightmare."

QUESTION: If they were a couple for a YEAR before they even reported being together, WHY would they report to ANYONE that they ENDED their relationship. It doesn't make any sense! Not to mention that IF, and it's a big IF, but IF they were to really break up, there's no way they would breath a word of it to anyone. They would wait until AFTER HSM2 aired before ruining any publicity for themselves or their castmates. And what dream vacation? We already know they had a "dream"vacation in Hawaii...

The bogus article continues ...

"The young lovers were spotted hand in hand at the MTV Movie Awards on June 3 but a road trip immediately following the event really tested their love for each other."

Anyone that knows anything about Zac and Vanessa, knows that they recently spent a week in Hawaii together. They've already worked out any "problems" that might arise during traveling. 

"An insider tells America's In Touch Weekly magazine, "Zac borrowed a car and the two headed off on their own. It was raining and they soon got lost."

It's just a guess but we're pretty sure Zac has his own car... And where in Southern California could it have been raining. We haven't seen rain in months!

Zac was yelling at Vanessa that it was her fault." The teenage couple reportedly got into an argument and split up on the trip. "

There are very few reasons on planet earth that would be good enough for a couple in love to abandon one another on a ROAD trip, but we're pretty sure that getting lost would not be one of them!

Although her seventh and final Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" comes outs on July 21st, she won't be in the US until Oct.15t. Her tour begins at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA where the Academy Awards takes place every year. Then JK will be appearing in New Orleans at the Convention Center. Finally on Oct 19 she will fly to New yYork where she will give 2 readings at Carnegie Hall.

Kelly Cancels Summer Tour

Looks like Kelly Clarkson fans will have to wait a bit longer before catching their American Idol live in concert. Clarkson's poor ticket sales prompted the artist to cancel her upcoming summer tour and make the following statement:

"In the craziness of the music business, performing is what I look forward to doing the most, so it really is disappointing for me to have to tell you that I won't be coming out to tour this summer. The fact is that touring is just too much too soon.

"But I promise you that we're going to get back out there as soon as is humanly possible to give you a show that will be even better,"  said Kelly from a statement on her official website. 

"The day when she will play in sold-out arenas is, no doubt, coming, but for now her fans should look forward to seeing her in a more intimate concert environment," Gregg Perloff, CEO of concert promoter Another Planet Entertainment, said in the statement. "Kelly deserves a tremendous amount of praise for her courage in not only being a part of, but in supporting, this difficult decision."

Look for Kelly's CD "My December" in stores June 26th!. 

Silver surfer makes gold!

The newest Fantastic Four film took box office gold this weekend!  With everything out there to see right now, that’s quite a feat!  It easily knocked Ocean’s Thirteen and Knocked Up out of the top spots, with the new Nancy Drew film doing a proud 7th place.   We love Emma, but how often do you get to see a hottie like Chris Evans actually catch fire!

Avril Takes Home Canadian Crown

Punk Princess Avril Lavigne was voted Favorite Arist last night at the 2007 Much Music Video Awards. Avril also picked an award for Best International Video by a Canadian for "Girlfriend."

Hilary Duff was voted Favorite International Artist and My Chemical Romance was named Favorite International Group as well as Best International Video for their song "Welcome To The Black Parade".

Well, for a movie, yes!  Seems she’s taken on a project called “Goree Girls” about one of the first all-female country western groups, which was formed when the women were all inmates at Goree Prison in Texas in the 1940’s.  Jenn is set to produce, and also possibly to star!  With the recent popularity of prison, it seems everyone is getting in on it!

New York's best-dressed dogs hounded the NY Arena to take part in a fashion show along with many celebs including Hayden Panettiere. The TV cheerleader grabbed her pooch and hit the runway for the 8th annual Paws for Style benefit in New York!  Everyone was there to help raise awareness about animal rescue, and who could resist such cute puppies!

Somebody spilled the beans!
Apparently, someone leaked that hot Chris Brown song “Wall to Wall” to a radio station four months before anyone was supposed to hear it!  The record company was mad at first, but now they’re all smiles: The song has been climbing the charts steadily, making everyone that much more excited about the album, “Exclusive”, due out on August 28th!  Do we hear “tour”?!?

Los Angeles, CA  KEWL Mag spent yesterday afternoon catching up with some of the hottest teen celebs at A Time For Heroes Celebrity Carnival. The celebrity fundraiser raised money to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. Since the whole thing was sponsored by Disney, there were plenty of Disney stars to mix and mingle with like Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, The Cheetah Girls and Monique Coleman, who all helped out at the Princess Booth, decorating princess crowns for the throngs of young girls who waited in line just to meet them.

Corbin Bleu was the first scheduled celeb at the Swashbuckling Booth where he helped create fab pieces of beaded pirate jewelry alongside the kids. Mitchel Musso, The Rosso Twins and Josh Hutcherson each had their time in the booth . Aly & AJ  performed an acoustic set and T-Squad delivered all the right moves to an excited audience at the outdoor concert arena.

But that's not all. Devon Werkheiser was there, volunteering at one of the booths, as well as Jason Dolley, Jamie Lynn Spears, Victoria Justice, Chad Michael Murray, Lance Bass, Luke Perry, and Tara Reid to name a few.

Some of the best LA restaurants help sponsor the event by donating food to everyone who attended. Needless to say, the food was great!  The event raised millions of much needed dollars  to help protect babies of HIV moms from being infected by the AIDS virus.

Well, a bird with a radio ankle bracelet who can’t leave home, at any rate!  Paris has managed to flee her bonds already, because of a “medical condition”.  No idea as to what this mystery condition is has leaked so far.  She didn’t quite make 5 days of her sentence! Now she’ll spend the next 40 days at home.  Hope she’s got a good book!

Still on tour promoting Shrek the Third, Cameron Diaz found herself in Paris, France, with a little time on her hands.  And where does a Princess go?  To Versailles, of course!  She toured the astonishing palace, its grounds and fountains in the correct style, too:  Guards and entourage sweeping behind her!  Now if she’d only worn a period dress, the illusion would be complete!

Actually, that’s the name of the new concert tour to be headlined by T.I. and Ciara!  They haven’t announced a full schedule yet, and are still planning on adding acts, as well as special guests throughout the country.   T.I.’s new album, “T.I. vs. T.I.P.” will be coming out July 3rd, and Ciara’s album “Ciara: The Evolution” has already sold over a million copies!

Yesterday was Pete Wentz’s 28th birthday, which he celebrated with main squeeze Ashlee Simpson at his own bar, Angels and Kings, in New York last night.  These two certainly seem to be lasting longer than most Hollywood couples these days!  And more power to them.  Any musical collaborations any time soon?  Pete denies it, but then again, he denied he had a relationship with Ashlee at first.  Shall we hope against hope?!?  Congratulations, Pete!

Okay, so we all knew she was “taken”…but now Jay-Z has actually PROPOSED!  Yep, that’s right!  He did it in Cannes, while no one was looking, crafty guy!  All reports are for the biggest hip-hop wedding ever…and the biggest rock ever – but has anyone seen anything?!?  Beyonce has been seen out shopping with her family in London, but still no shots of an engagement ring!  We’ll keep looking!

But Madame Tussauds of New York City, the world famous wax figure museum, has put their model of Paris Hilton in prison stripes!  They’ve promised to keep her in her new get-up until her release!  Pretty gutsy of them, as it may not even be as long as a month!  Smart too!  We’re on our way, just to get our picture with the imprisoned celebutante!

American Idol runner up Katharine McPhee is ready for her close-up!  Seems she’ll be starring in an indie romantic comedy called “The Last Caller”.  Her role is that of a self-obsessed woman looking for love in the city, and there’s no singing involved!  She says the character is much “darker” than who she is personally, and will be a good challenge.  There have been other offers for bigger, studio backed projects, but none with leading roles that she liked, so she jumped at this one!  Break a Leg, Katharine!

The MTV Movie Awards were this weekend, and what a turnout!  Josh Duhamel, Chris Evans, Hayden Panettiere, Lauren Conrad, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, Monique Coleman, Jessica Alba, Johnny Depp…we get giddy just thinking about it!  The big winners of the evening, if you missed it, were:  Johnny Depp, Gerard Butler, Jack Nicholson, Sacha Baron Cohen took two!, Mike Myers, Will Ferrell, and Jaden Smith – Will Smith’s son.

After attending the MTV Movie Awards Saturday night, Paris gave herself up to authorities to start serving her (probably just a couple of days) sentence.  Not one, but two mug shots have surfaced now, making you wonder if they have do-overs!  There are reports that Paris will be in solitary confinement for 23 hours of every day.  I’m sure more for her protection than for being such a bad girl!
