Hottie Hartnett Hospitalized

03.31.09
Josh Hartnett had a health scare that landed him in L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for observation early Monday morning. The 30 year old star of "Pearl Harbor" was staying at the star-studded Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood when he began complaining of abdominal pain a little before 2 a.m. Monday. Josh was able to walk to the ambulance once it arrived to the hotel. The last few months while he was performing in the stage version of "Rain Man" in London, Josh suffered from gastrointestinal problems and it is believed that Monday's incident is related. He is resting and is under observation (I'd love to be his nurse!). Get well soon, Josh!!

Mullets of Love

03.30.09
So you know that infamous hairstyle, the mullet, where the hair is short on the head, but long in the back? Well, if you thought it was just a silly haircut donned by David Spade in movies, think again. Dustin Amara, a nine year old boy in Florida, grew out his hair into a mullet for a good cause. After his mother told him about children who are treated for cancer lose their hair, admirable Dustin decided to grow out his hair to be able to donate it to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is an organization that creates wigs for cancer patients out of donated hair. At first, kids teased Dustin for his mulletocity, but once he explained that it was for a good cause, their teasing stopped and they were proud of him. Dustin plans on growing out his hair again so that he can make another donation to Locks of Love. We think Dustin is the kewlest! If you're thinking of chopping off your hair for a fresh Springtime do, follow Dustin's lead and send lots of love to Locks of Love.

03.27.09
Through the encouragement of his owner, precious Pekingese Ziggy is a full-blown artist! His owner made a contraption with a paintbrush attached to a cardboard tube and Ziggy places his little nose in there to paint a picture. How adorbs!! It can take weeks for Ziggy to complete one picture because he still has lots of puppy playing to do on the side. The paintings sell for $250, but all of the profits go towards animal rescue charities which makes us really happy.
Dora's Diva Makeover

03.27.09
Looks like our sweet, young Dora the Explorer is growing up and grown-ups aren't happy about it. This coming Fall, expect to see a different version of the explorer. She'll be growing out her hair and wearing heels and a miniskirt. Parents have begun a petition pressuring Mattel and Nickeloeon to let Dora enjoy her youth and not mature so quickly. They have a point - don't you think heels and a skirt would make exploring difficult?

Parrot Honored as Hero

03.26.09
We all knew parrots were smart, but this takes the cake! Willie the parrot received the Animal Lifesaver Award from the Red Cross after alerting a mother that her little girl was choking on breakfast. The mother left the room briefly & when the girl began choking, Willie proclaimed "Mama, baby" causing the mother to rush back into the room and perform the Heimlich Maneuver on her child, whose face was already turning blue. Just another example of how amazing animals can be. We love Willie!

Spidey Saves Thai Student!

03.24.09
An eight-year-old boy who climbed on to a third-floor window ledge in Thailand was saved by his superhero, Spiderman. Police reported that teachers called the fire department after the boy began crying and climbed out of a classroom window. It was his first day at a special needs school for the autistic boy and efforts by teachers to coax him back inside had failed.
The boy’s mother mentioned her son’s passion for comic superheroes and fireman Somchai Yoosabai rushed back to the station to get a Spider-Man costume he keeps in his locker to liven up fire drills in schools.
The sight of Spidey holding a glass of juice for him prompted the boy to jump into the arms of his superhero!

Missing Kitty Found Inside Sofa!
03.18.09
A couple in Spokane, Washington recently purchased a $27 sofa from a thrift store and a few days later they started to hear a mysterious mewing sound coming from inside the sofa. They couldn’t find the source of the sound until they discovered a small hole in the bottom of the sofa’s fabric covering. After several efforts, they were able to coax out a small, 9-year-old calico cat. After contacting the thrift store, the new owners of the sofa were able to find the original owners to return their missing kitty, Callie. It was a grateful day for both the owners and Callie. Reunited at last!

Hockey Player Recycles Ice Skates
03.17.09
Former hockey player Charles Olson of Gloucester, MA took it upon himself to start rescuing ice skates from garage sales for 25 and 50 cents a pop and giving them to local kids. In today’s challenged economy, he knows not everyone will be able to afford to run out and buy new ice skates, so rather than see his favorite sport’s local numbers shrink, he did something about it. Parents and kids are enjoying the great idea. One grateful mom pointed out, “Kids grow out of things so quickly. This way, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. We just take the skates and trade them in for a bigger pair.” Charles’ idea isn’t advertised. It’s just communicated word of mouth: the old-fashioned, neighborly way.
Now, that's good news!

Teen Dinosaurs Got in Trouble!

03.17.09
Scientists have made an amazing dinosaur discovery in the Gobi Desert of western Inner Mongolia (a landlocked country in East Central Asia that borders Russia to the north and China to the south, east and west). They found a group of more than 25 teenage dinosaurs ranging in age from 1 to 7 years old. The evidence suggests the dinos died when they became mired in mud near a lake about 90 million years ago, according to the team of paleontologists that excavated the remains.
Like teenagers today, it appears these juvenile dinosaurs hung out together -- sometimes in places they shouldn't have!
The species is ornithomimid dinosaur (Sinornithomimus dongi) -- a relative of the Tyrannosaurs. According to University of Chicago paleontologists, there were no adults or hatchlings in the dig site suggesting that immature individuals were left to fend for themselves when adults were otherwise engaged.
Evidently, finding a herd of dinosaurs stuck in mud like this is exceedingly rare and offers one of the best explanations of the death of a dinosaur ever.

Dog and Raccoon BFFs?
03.16.09
A rescue center in Poland calls a St. Bernard and his raccoon friend the odd couple. The raccoon was brought to the center after losing a foot. The two soon realized they got along so well they started to eat and play together. The only thing the raccoon doesn’t care for is the dog’s barking! The two unlikely friends make us ask ourselves once again, "Can't we all just get along??"

Joss and Teen Beau Break Up

03.16.09
Singer Joss Stone’s 19-year-old boyfriend Danny Radford has broken off their 4 month relationship because he reportedly can’t deal with her celebrity lifestyle. According to friends, the 21-year-old Joss started dating the boat builder in December.
However, Radford, who’s been friends with Joss for a long time, left for France to start a new life. He found it difficult having her gone for long periods of time while she was on the road for her singing career.
“Danny adores Joss but he couldn’t put up with her constantly being away,” a friend was quoted as saying. The friend added: “Joss seems cool about it.” Well, we’ll probably be hearing a song or two about it in the near future...

Mandy and Ryan say "I do!"
03.12.09
Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have taken their wedding vows! Wow! They just got engaged a month ago. But they reportedly got married in Savannah, Georgia this week. So much for a one-year engagement! (Unless you count the day they became an item last April as the beginning of their engagement!)
The singer-songwriter-actress, 24, and rocker Adams, 34, applied for their marriage license on Tuesday in Savannah, undisturbed by the paparazzi. Moore says of her new hubby, "I'm in awe of him: his brain, his passion. He's truly one of a kind."

Spring Break for Entangled Whale
03.12.09
When a North Atlantic right whale was found entangled in rope off the Georgia Coast on January 14th, officials took a boat out to attempt to remove 560 feet of trailing rope from its body. Teams made 4 more attempts over the next 6 weeks to remove the rest of the rope which looked to be from commercial fishing operations. Naturally the whale did what it could to avoid the human efforts making matters difficult for the people trying to help. So they decided to sedate the severely injured whale which by now was near Ponce Inlet, south of Daytona Beach, FL. While the whale was sedated, the team was able to successfully disentangle it from the rope.
This is the first time a large whale was ever sedated in the wild, according to the federal fisheries agency! We hope it makes a speedy recovery.

Indian Soda Made of Cow Urine?
3.05.09
Yes, it's true! A group in India is producing a new soda made of cow urine. But don't worry. It will be enhanced with the flavors of Gooseberry and aloe vera so consumers won't be drinking straight cow pee. Many Hindus consider cow urine to have health benefits and it is a common beverage at religous festivals around India. It won't be available for several more months so you might want to book your air travel to India in advance and go get in line!

3.05.09
Omg! Where has he been all these years?! Former teen heart throb Ralph Macchio of Karate Kid (the original 1984 release) fame, recently guest-starred on the hit TV series, Ugly Betty. His character, councilman Archie Rodriguez, has been in some super flirty scenes with Ugly Betty’s big sis, Hilda, played by Ana Ortiz. So is there gonna be a hookup? Evidently, yes. Hilda’s family is pushing for the couple to be together because of her long history of liking bad boys. Here’s a great guy with a promising future and he really likes her! We hope he stays around for a few more seasons. We heart Ralph Macchio, even all grown up!

Missing Dog Survives Harsh Winter!
3.04.09
Here’s an amazing and heartwarming story from the Pacific Northwest. The Halter family from Washington State was traveling with their dog on summer vacation in Montana when a train whistle startled it and it bolted. The family looked for two days with the help of members of the community in Chester, Montana. Sadly, they could not find their dear Golden Retriever, Buck, and they had to head for home. The town was plastered with posters of the missing Buck and concerned townspeople kept looking even after the family had gone home, but to no avail.
Summer turned to fall and fall to winter. As temperatures dropped the Halter family gave up hope – except for 17-year-old Jason, who never lost his faith that Buck would come home someday.
Lo and behold, 6 months later on January 25, the dog was spotted on a family farm just north of where he was lost. The dog was seen in 27 degrees below zero weather going through a creek. The Wanken family began taking food to the dog and realized soon thereafter that it was Buck – the dog that had gone missing. They crated him, took him home and got in touch with the Halter family who drove 750 miles through the night to be reunited with their amazing dog.
The whole family cried tears of joy when they saw Buck for the first time in 6 months. Apparently he had been surviving in a collapsed building and eating and drinking what he could find out of a creek. Jason’s mom says, “It was a miracle.”

Barbie Doll Banned?
3.04.09
A West Virginia state lawmaker proposed a bill today that would ban Barbie Dolls from the state. His argument? That Barbie encourages girls to put too much emphasis on their appearance at the expense of their emotional and intellectual development. Mattel introduced Barbie to the public in 1959 making this year her 50th anniversary. It’s not the first time Barbie has been on the chopping block. The skinny, but voluptuous blond doll has been criticized for a half century for promoting materialism and an unrealistic body image for girls. What do you think? Go to Quick Polls and let us hear from you!
The First Dog Needs a Name!
3.03.09
Good morning! We have caught wind that the Obamas are possibly adopting a Portuguese water dog and they are throwing around names to give it. The first lady laughed when she said, “…there are names floating around and they’re bad!” Two of the ideas were Frank and Moose! So we want your thoughts on the matter. Log on to our Quick Polls and let us know what you think.

The JoBros Are Total Love Bugs!
3.03.09
The Jonas Brothers never cease to amaze us with their kind hearts and generous spirits. On Sunday they dropped in on a 9-year-old Texan fan, Jayla Cooper, who is bravely battling an aggressive form of leukemia.
Jayla got hugs from her fave musicians and a private, a-capella (no instruments!) performance of her favorite song, "Love Bug." Then they told Jayla they love her. Are these guys angels, or what? As for Jayla, we’re rooting for you!! Keep making those dreams come true!!
