Happy Birthday, Justin!

January 31, 2008
As the new king of pop music turns another year older, we have to be amazed that he still keeps bringing the hits that move our dancing feet! Not only did he have the most successful album and international tour of last year, but he also may have finally found his match! With the lovely and talented Jessica Biel at his side, he's been looking happier than ever! As his movie role roster grows (Alpha Dog, Southland Tales, Black Snake Moan, Shrek the Third, and the upcoming The Love Guru), we can only look forward to more Justin in more places! He even started a new record company, and signed it's first star, the YouTube sensation Esme Denters! What a year!!! We all wish you at least as much success and joy in the coming year as you had in the last! Happy Birthday, Just Justin!

Happy Birthday, Rob!

January 30, 2008
Happy Coconut Head Day!!! And doesn't he look MUCH better without that crazy wig?!? Rob is turning 20 today, but hasn't lost a bit of his boyish charm! This past year, he was busy filming some of the funniest episodes of "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide" so far, played the voice of Todd Maplewood on the animated series "Ben 10", starred in the crazy comedy "The Sasquatch Gang", and made a few independent films as well! During all that fun, he also took out time from his schedule to come and party at the KEWL Magazine Launch party, and has since become a favorite in our book! Check out our videos featuring Rob from the party, and write him your own personalized Birthday wishes on his celebrity blog right here on our site!!! Can't wait for more Coconut Head in the future! Happy Birthday, Rob!

Now It’s For Reals!
Jan. 30, 2008
What was always just a nickname is now her real name! Miley Cyrus, or Destiny Hope Cyrus as she was named at birth, has now legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus! Miley came from the nickname her dad gave her because she was such a ‘smiley’ baby, and it has stuck ever since. One can only assume that adding the ‘Ray’ in the middle is a nod to her dad, and maybe a thank you for giving her such a charmed ‘Destiny’ and ‘Hope’ in the first place!!! Let’s hope the good family feelings lead to even better family music, right? Congratulations, Miley!

Get ‘Idol’ at Camp!
Jan. 29, 2008
Did you know that there is a summer camp for people who want to sharpen their ‘American Idol’ skills?!? There is!!! It’s run by the same company that does the show, and promises ex-idol contenders and music professionals as the teachers for your musical summer camp experience! This year, the camp is taking place at Pali Mountain in Running Springs, California, and is open to anyone who signs up between the ages of 10 and 15 years old. No audition is necessary! The camp takes place over fourteen days to get the maximum experience, and along with traditional camp activities, will include courses in singing, acting, dancing, song-writing, audition and performance techniques, video production, set design and more, that kids can pick and choose for themselves depending upon their interests. The first session starts June 15th , and the last one starts August 10th. The whole thing costs $2,995 and doesn’t include transportation to the camp, so you’d better start in on the extra chores right away! There will be some fully-paid scholarships available though, based on financial need. For complete information on the camp and applications, go to www.idolcamp.com.

Speaking of ‘Camp’…
Jan. 29, 2008
The Jonas Brothers are talking about their upcoming CD! It’s due to hit the streets on July 8th - how will we survive that long?!? For those of you going to the upcoming concert tour that starts Saturday in Atlanta, the guys will be giving you a taste of things to come with four tracks from the new album. According to Nick, the new stuff is infused with all the experiences the guys have gained growing up and being on the road, and one song even deals with Nick’s struggle with his own diabetes. He also cites influences from classic pop icons The Beatles, The Animals, The Rascals and even Elvis Costello. As for “Camp Rock”, it looks like you’ll all be back from camp before it airs, possibly in September. And do you have your tickets for the movie?!? We’ve got ours! KEWL is taking an office field trip to see it at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood – the same theatre where it premiered! How KEWL is that?

Happy Birthday, Christopher!

January 26, 2008
Hey Mr. Massey! A Happy Birthday to you! Now that Zoey:101 is one of the hottest shows on television, this 5'9" and getting taller guy will see his star shooting higher this year as well! As part of a cast that has taken the Young Artist Award for Young Ensemble Performance the past two years in a row, maybe it's about time! Here's hoping the festivities at the Massey household are duly 'off the hook' for this, his 18th Birthday! We hope your all ready to vote, too! Have a great day, Chris!

The Grammys are Go!
Jan. 25, 2008
The Writer’s Guild has announced that they will not picket the Grammy Awards this year, which means all the stars can feel free to show up and shine! And they are making plans to do just that! Among the stars who’ve already signed on to perform on the grandest music awards show of the year are Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, the Foo Fighters, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, and the queen of soul herself, Aretha Franklin! There will be a gospel segment, and a rock orchestra made up of contenders for the “My Grammy Moment” competition being run for unsigned musicians on YouTube. The show will air February 10th on CBS, or you can watch it online on Grammy.com! Rock on!
Scarlett Sings!
Jan. 25, 2008
The release date for Scarlett Johanssen’s first album is set for May! It’s going to be mostly covers (her versions) of Tom Waite’s songs, and one original. She’s been working with some of the best musicians and producers in the indie rock scene, but something tells me this won’t exactly unseat Miley Cyrus in your hearts! Not even on the same page! If you’re not familiar with Tom Waite’s music, it’s very rough and emotes the idea of “whiskey soaked” more than any other music we know… at least when he sings it with his low and raspy growl. Anyone who was at Coachella last year might have a better idea of what her pipes really sound like, but the rest of us will have to wait and see if she sounds as classic and smooth as she looks!

Happy Birthday, Ricky!

January 24, 2008
Or as his friends know him Raviv! The ex-star of the hit show "Phil of the Future" has been hard at work getting more 'grown-up' acting work! On TV hes' been in House, Cold Case, Big Love and Driftwood, and has three high school and college themed movies slated to come out this year! We're looking forward to seeing what he's got up his sleeve... and which name he'll go by as he grows older! We think Raviv is kewl-er... what do you think? Happy Birthday to you, Mr. Ullman!

Want Hayden’s Stuff?
Jan. 24, 2008
You can have it! Well, you’ll have to pay for it, but all the money is going to a good cause: Hayden has decided to take some of the kewlest pieces out of her wardrobe, and sell them off to benefit her favorite charity, The Whalemen Foundation! Now THAT’S using celebrity for good! She’s putting all sorts of cute dresses, hats, and even a Disney Princess Watch up for sale, so get your parents to go to www.PanettiereCloset.com with you, and see if you can get while giving!!! Neato! But really, don’t get too excited! The prices are on high fashion items, and are set high to raise more money for the cause – so unless you want to spend a year’s worth of allowance on a t-shirt, looking is probably the most fun us normal folk can have! Enjoy peeping into Hayden’s Closet!

Hils Goes South
Jan. 23, 2008
Continuing on her worldwide “Dignity” tour, Hilary Duff performed recently in Mexico City, and was spotted yesterday even further south in Sao Paolo, Brazil! We all knew she was an international star, so we’d love to see how South America is warming up to her style! The only thing we ask is: Come tour the US! And soon!

Zac Back on Track
Jan. 23, 2008
Zac Efron was spotted already back at work on the set of Seventeen this past weekend! He didn’t have much time to recover from his appendectomy surgery last week, but when you’ve got as much on your plate as Zac, you can’t really take much of a break! Just imagine if hundreds of people’s salaries depended on you showing up to work each day! Zac’s a game guy for getting back at it as fast as he can! Let’s just hope he still gets enough beauty sleep!

Kay Cee and Ryne at Sundance Film Festival
Jan 21, 2008
HSM's KayCee Stroh ran into her costar Bart Johnson (Coach Bolton, Troy's DAD!) on Main Street this weekend at the world famous Sundance film festival. The fest takes place every Jan/Feb at the Park City ski resort in Utah.
Later on KayCee met up with HSM's Ryne Sanborn and Alan Rickman (Harry Potter, Sweeney Todd) at the Kenneth Cole Reaction Lounge..

Their first day in town, Ryne & KayCee hit up the Kari Feinstein gifting lounge, chatted with Perez HIlton, and attended the 7 For All Mankind/GenArt party honoring 7 Fresh Faces In Film. How much fun are they having?!?

Sells Out Both Worlds!
Jan. 21, 2008
If you didn’t get your Hannah Montana concert tickets, and were hoping to get tickets to the movie instead, you might already be too late! The Disney 3-D extravaganza doesn’t open until February 1st, but it seems the tickets are going faster than fast! The movie is scheduled to play in theatres… but only for one week! And most of the tickets are gone already! So, if you really want to see it, don’t be picky about where you want to sit, just be happy you got a seat at all! Talk about popular! We may have to invent a new word for the phenomenon that is ‘Miley’!

Paramore up for Grammy!

Jan. 21, 2008
One of our favorite breaking bands this year is Paramore, and the Grammy’s seem to agree! The rockin’ band from Tennessee lead by frontwoman Hayley Williams will take a quick break from their European tour to attend the awards, though they’re careful about talking about anyone’s odds of winning. They are up against some stiff competition in Best New Artist, including Feist, Ledisi, Taylor Swift and Amy Winehouse! Also on the horizon for the group is a spring tour co-headlining with Jimmy Eat World – one of their own favorite bands! Though the tour has been announced, no specific dates have yet been listed, so stay tuned!

Can’t Stop Him!
Jan.18, 2008
Even though Zac spent a few days in the hospital getting and recovering from an emergency appendectomy this week, he’s still booking work from his bed! Scheduled to start filming in mid-February already, he is now set to play the “Me” in “Me and Orson Welles”! The film is set in 1937 (cool costumes!), and Zac plays the high school student Richard Samuels, who had the incredible good fortune to accidentally meet Orson Welles in front of his legendary Mercury Theatre in New York…just before the legend began! If the name Orson Welles doesn’t mean anything to you, you can Wiki him and the Mercury Theatre, to find out just how much they affected history in their time! And your grandparents will have plenty to say about him – he was a very passionate and controversial writer/performer/director/producer! Then, with hardly a breath, Zac will hit the set for HSM3 on April 21st! Busy Boy!!!

What a Night!
Jan. 19, 2008
Last night was the big Hollywood premiere of the new Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Concert Film in 3-D! Disney’s El Capitan Theatre was the place, and KEWL was there! And that’s not all! Ashley Tisdale, Madison Pettis, BooBoo Stewart, Jason Earles, Selena Gomez, The Jonas Brothers, Mitchel Musso, Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley herself were all there for the big event!

Hayden Loves You
Jan. 17, 2008
Or we love her. Or “I Love You, Beth Cooper”. Yeah! That’s it! That’s the title of the new movie that Hayden has recently signed on to be in! In it, she plays a cheerleader (!), who receives a pledge of everlasting love from a less-than-popular classmate during the school graduation ceremony. The two then share some adventures and misadventures over the summer. The whole thing will be directed by Chris Columbus, who was the director behind the first two Harry Potter movies! We’re just wondering who the lucky ‘geeky guy’ will be who gets to play opposite miss Panettiere!!!

Vanessa Goes Indie

Jan. 17, 2008
Vannessa Hudgens has signed on to star in the film “Will”! The movie is about a high school outcast and a popular girl who form an unlikely bond through their shared love of music. Todd Graff, who wrote and directed the film “Camp”, will be onboard to bring us a film about overcoming odds and winning a battle of the bands competition at their high school. Now, who are all these lucky “outcast” guys gonna be who get to star in the movies with the most popular girls in the world?!? Hey! Movie-makers! How about some films where regular girls get the hot guy?!?

Zac Rushed to Hospital!
January 16, 2008
Don't panic! He's doing fine but he did get rushed to the hospital yesterday to have his appendix removed. He had acute appendicitis (which isn't very cute!) and was admitted to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday. His publicist said, "He had his appendix removed and is recuperating." Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix, a little pepper shaped thing that probably used to be important in our intestines, but no longer serves any use. Appendicitis can be fatal if left untreated.

HSM is ON!

Jan. 15, 2008
There is now final word from Disney that HSM 3 is on, and with all of the original stars back for the fun! The story is, what else, about their senior year, and all the emotions with making plans for their futures, and possibly going off to their separate lives. So those crazy Wildcats decided to put on the spring musical to end all spring musicals, and really send their final year of High School out with a bang. And ‘bang’ it will! They’ll be back filming this spring, with a tentative date of October 24th, 2008 set as their release in MOVIE THEATRES! Yep! This time, we get to see them on the big screen, too! Our question is, how many fights will break out over having seats as close to the screen as possible?!? We’re all sure you’ll be seeing it more than once, so try to be giving, girls!!!

Disney’s New Princess!

Jan. 15, 2008
Disney has just announced it’s newest Princess for the upcoming animated feature of “The Princess and the Frog”! Her name is Tiana, she’s African-American, and she’s a rich girl who lives in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The movie is set to come out around Christmas of 2009 (All those drawings take a LOT of time!), but it’s fun to look forward to a new face in Disney’s pantheon of Princesses! Congratulations, Princess Tiana!

Jonas-monium!
Jan. 14, 2008
Saturday, tickets went on sale for the Jonas Brothers tour, and though things got wild at all the box office locations, our own Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios in Hollywood was the craziest of them all! Fans were there from 5am waiting for tickets for the first twenty rows to go on sale at noon, and they sold out at 5pm. The rest of the tickets were sold online, and gone in 3 minutes!!! And as a special treat for the Hollywood crowd, the Brothers themselves made a surprise appearance on the box office roof, sending the crowd completely out of their minds! One of our KEWLteam was on hand, and caught some of the action on his point and click! Here are the pix, and good luck getting those seats if you weren’t on hand Saturday!!!

Happy Birthday, Orlando!

January 13, 2008
Our favorite 'pirate who's not a pirate' turns one year older today! After a year full of minor car crashes, getting put on 'sexiest' lists in magazines worldwide, and wearing some pretty bad stache for a large part of the year, some good things happened as well! He won the "Newcomer of the Year" Award for his work in the stage production of "In Celebration" in London this past year, and there's also the fact that he's named in the theme-song for "Hannah Montan" each and everytime it airs! With all that time on the London stage, it doesn't look like Orly has any film projects just waiting to premiere, so for his New Year, we wish him many more roles to come and watch him in! Make us swoon, Orlando! And have a Happy Birthday, too!
(photo: pr photo)
Thomas Who?!?
Jan. 11, 2008
If you’re saying that now, you soon won’t be! Thomas Dekker is about to take over your TV screen as John Connor in the new series “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”, which takes up the “Terminator” story where they left off, and follows the resourceful mother and son on their adventures to survive and ensure the survival of humanity. But it’s not like you haven’t seen him before! He also played the best friend to Hayden Panettiere’s “Claire” on “Heroes”…remember? Currently, he’s hard at work on a new film directed by the cinematographer of films like “Pursuit of Happyness”, and “Walk the Line”. On his own, Thomas is also a “filmmaker” with two independent films that he’s written and directed, and he already had his first recording contract at the age of 14! Now 20 years old, he’s ready to take on the world!

In the Studio
Jan. 11, 2008
Actually, the Jonas Brothers were ‘in the studio’ the entire time they were on the road with Miley Cyrus! They had a specially equipped tour bus from Gibson Guitars that doubled as a mobile recording studio, and did most of the work on their upcoming album there! Now that they've wrapped up their portion of the tour (Miley will continue for 8 more dates with Aly and AJ), they’re putting the finishing touches on the album in a proper, land-based studio, before they head out on the first leg of their “When You Look Me In The Eyes” Tour! The song will be performed live for the first time on the Jan. 21st episode of “The Ellen Degeneres Show”, and their label, Hollywood Records, says they’ll premiere their video around the same time! Everything’s coming up Jonas!!!
(photo: pr photo)
Panic! On Tour!
Jan. 10, 2008
Your faves, Panic! At the Disco, have been chosen to headline this year’s Honda Civic Tour! Last year’s band was Fall Out Boy… are we seeing a trend?!? The tour will visit 45 cities, beginning April 10th in San Francisco and ending June 14th in Anaheim, California. The full schedule should be available in mid February, so we’ll let you know when we’ve got it! $1 of every ticket will be going to the green-friendly tour partners Reverb and Global Inheritance! And Honda will also be giving away a hybrid car designed by the band to one lucky concert goer! Make sure you find the kiosk and sign up if you go!
(pr: pr photo)
Aly and AJ Git Busy!

Jan. 10, 2008
Talk about a full schedule! Not only are these two joining Miley Cyrus for the final 8 shows of her tour starting tomorrow in Detroit, but right after, they’ll be splitting up and going off to make different films! AJ booked a role in Peter Jackson’s “The Lovely Bones”, and will head off to New Zealand, while Aly is off to Austin, Texas to work on the movie “Will”, for which she will also write and perform some of the music! And THEN, they want to get back in the studio and record their next album. The two claim most of the songs are already written, but they want to work out a definitive sound for the album – not just the same thing their fans have heard before! Sounds kewl, girls! They’ve just released a new single, “Like Whoa”, which should keep you guys happy, at least for a little while! In the meantime, let’s wish the girls the theatrical version of good luck: which is “Break a Leg”!

Poor Joe!

Jan. 9th, 2008
While messing around making a backstage video for their website last Saturday night after the Atlantic City show, Joe tripped, hit his forehead on a grate, and had to have stitches! After slipping and cutting his hand during his Grammy performance, we’ve been wondering if we shouldn’t just call him “Grace Jonas”?!? Lucky for him, he has all those long curls to drape over his forehead to cover the scar! Or maybe he’ll go for the Harry Potter look…that’s actually not such a bad idea! Get well soon, Joe!

Did You Choose?
Jan. 9th, 2008
The People’s Choice Awards were on last night, and though it tried hard, was merely a hyped up list reading. If you have a dramatic bent, you and your friends can probably make a more exciting show by simply reading off the list below with funny accents and acting out your favorite performances! …Hey! Maybe we can sell that idea to them for next year…?!? These awards never seem to be a good indicator of who will win the bigger awards, but they’re fun all the same, and tend to spread the love to those who will be overlooked at the other shows – mainly comedy and action films! Here’s a complete list of the winners for you below. If you want to know who the other nominees were, go to peopleschoice.com for all the info!

Where’s the Winner?!?
Jan. 8th, 2007
That’s what many people might be saying this weekend, as NBC boldly (or baldly) goes forward with it’s plans to air the Golden Globes Awards this Sunday night. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association asked NBC not to air the show, as that would free up stars to attend and accept their awards, while not crossing the picket lines of the striking writers (the Screen Actors Guild is supporting the strike by not working on any shows they are striking). Because no writers can be used for any televised parts of the show, NBC’s decision to go ahead anyway will probably make for a very awkward night of television! They are planning on covering the red carpet portion of the show, if any actors show up, that is (!), and also a news conference after where the winners will be announced. Plans are to cover the after parties, and let the winners speak ‘if they choose’. Seeing as how most companies have cancelled their after parties, it could be a pretty sickly little show. NBC was also the company that ordered it’s late night hosts back to work, so clearly they are setting themselves up to be the hard nut to crack in this strike. We feel bad for this year’s nominees, who won’t be able to celebrate the way they deserve to. Congratulations to them all the same! Will you watch?

Do Something Dot Org
Jan. 8th, 2008
Something kewl has come up that you can do to help fight homelessness! Do you wear your jeans out? Or does fashion or growth decide which jeans get ousted from your wardrobe? If that’s the case, take the old cast-offs on down to your local Aeropostale store at the mall, and donate them to Jeans for Teens! 1 in 3 homeless people today are under the age of 18 (Yikes!), and could really use some good warm clothes to help them get through the winter. When you take them in, Aeropostale will also give you 20% off on the next pair of jeans you buy from them, so you get back in all sorts of ways! There’s a cute promo for the charity on YouTube starring Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen… who just happen to also be co-stars of the upcoming action sci-fi movie “Jumpers”. These are two people who are using their fame for good! So get out and use your good for good!!!

Be Nice to Reese!
Jan. 7th, 2007
Reese Witherspoon is set to star in the film version of the bestselling book “Nice”. It’s about the nicest woman you ever met, who has one ‘small’ problem: She’s so focused on never disagreeing with anyone, that when she wants someone to go away, instead of telling them, she simply kills them! Yikes! But finally, there comes a day when she meets a man with the same ‘little quirk’, and they have to work to survive each other! If they keep it light, it could be as funny as the oh-so-wrong movies “Serial Mom” or the classic “The Trouble With Harry”! Don’t know about you, but we’re planning on staying on Reese’s good side!

Wanna Go to an Island?
Jan. 7th, 2008
We want to go to “Nim’s Island”! After seeing the trailer for the new movie starring Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler, who wouldn’t?!? It looks funny and entertaining, and is a little like a kid’s version of one of my favorite old movies “Romancing the Stone”. Are we giving you guys a lot of fun movie tips today, or what?!? “Nim’s Island” comes out April 4th, so we’ll all help each other in trying to be patient… right?!? Right!

Look Them in the Eyes!
Jan. 4th, 2007
Taking the title from their newest single, the Jonas Brothers have signed on to a two year, 140 show, international deal with Live Nation! The first phase of the tour will start on January 31st in Tuscon, AZ, with tickets going on sale on January 12th! That’s a Saturday, so no need to miss any school to make sure you get your tickets! Talk is that this is the first deal of it’s kind with an ‘up-and-coming’ band, but that just goes to show that people don’t know what they’re talking about! Didn’t they watch any of the major music television shows this fall?!? Didn’t they see the sales of the Hannah Montana concert tickets?!? Live Nation made a similar deal with Madonna earlier this year, which was the very first of its kind! And JoBro makes it the second ever! Goodbye, “up-and-coming” status! Also coming up for the guys are their Disney movie “Camp Rock”, and a spin-off series also on Disney, both slated to come out next summer! How many prayers are being answered by this promise of more JoBro?!? TONS!
Below are the scheduled tour dates so far:
Jan. 31: Tucson, Ariz. (TCC Music Hall)
Feb. 1: Las Vegas (Planet Hollywood)
Feb. 2: Los Angeles (Gibson Amphitheatre)
Feb. 5: Everett, Wash. (Events Center)
Feb. 6: Portland, Ore. (Schnitzer Hall)
Feb. 8: Salt Lake City (E Center)
Feb. 11: El Paso, Texas (Abraham Chavez Theatre)
Feb. 12: San Antonio (San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo)

Connect Beyonce!
Jan. 3rd, 2008
Here’s a little known fact: Did you know that Beyonce has a reputation… of being an unbeatable Connect Four player?!? That’s right! And when Kanye West found out, he knew he had to play her! Seems the singer thinks he’s something of a ‘playa’ himself, and needed to take the challenge to the highest level. So at the opening night of Jay-Z’s new nightclub 40/40 in Las Vegas (you can see B’s awesome dress for the event highlighted in the style section!), he challenged her and the night was on! And you thought the rich and famous got all messy partying the night away?!? Not so! They leave the tiring business of partying to the revelers in the club, and get behind the scenes for some serious Connect Four play! Seems Kanye came out of the night winning only one game against Lady B’s 9 wins! Girl’s got game! And to give her props, he stills seems pretty proud that he even got one game out of her! Wanna be a rockstar? Then it’s time to work on your Connect Four skills! Aight!
New Years Couples
Dec. 2nd, 2008
Have you heard? Josh Duhamel did the right thing and gave Fergie a great big ring! That’s right! They’re engaged! The couple celebrated by taking off to Mexico to celebrate New Years together, and far away from the rest of us… though the paparazzi are never far behind a couple as cute as that! Congratulations to the talented pair!

Something About the Beach?
Jan. 2nd, 2008
On another beach, on the other coast of North America, the new couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard were seen walking arm in arm! Miami’s South Beach hosted quite a few celebrity couples over New Years, but this was the most surprising one to us! Let’s hope this blonde lasts a bit longer with the tall funnyman than most have! Good luck, guys!
