Up Close With Nick Jonas

Nick J might be the youngest JoBro but he's full of wisdom and maturity beyond his years. He plays guitar and keyboards, is the lead singer and main writer for the group, having had a solo singing career before the JoBros formed. He started performing on stage at age 7 and has done 4 Broadway shows, including Les Misérables and Beauty and the Beast.

Do you prefer music concerts over Broadway theatre?
Nick: Right now I'm just  really just enjoying doing the band thing but maybe one day I'll go back and do some more Broadway shows!

If you were invisible for a day what’s the first thing you would do?
Nick: I think I would try to just like poke somebody a lot and see if they’d notice. Like see how frustrated they get.

Anyone in particular?
Nick: No, just anybody. Just kinda like walk up to them and tap them the whole day. They'd be like, “What the heck is that?” And they’d figure out sooner or later that there’s an invisible man.

Musical influences?
I'd have to say Stevie Wonder, Will Smith. And the Osmonds.

What’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?
Nick: Hmmm, I think so far my computer, the Mac Book.

Least favorite word?
Nick: My least favorite word is actually not really a word but it’s when people abbreviate things, like a word. For some reason it annoys me.

Like LOL or whatever?
Nick: Not so much like that. More like if there’s a song, instead of saying the whole title, they say a  part of the song. Like, “Lets play year,” and I’m like, “What’s year?” They’ll be like, “Year 3000,” I’m like, “Oh my gosh! It’s called The Year 3000.”

Being “the baby” of the group, do you miss your friends and home?
Nick: Ya know, I’m doing ok right now. I think I'm just enjoying the ride and enjoying everything that were able to do. It’s all good.

Best part about being in a band with your brothers?
Nick: Being able to play on stage every night with each other. Most brothers don’t get to do what we do and the fact that were able to is really cool. Were kind of each others best friends.

Mother’s Day!

Did you forget?  Of course not, but Mother’s Day is just around the corner (May 11th) so you’ve got to get your rear in gear to make it a special day for her!  You owe her no less than your very existence!  Your mom didn’t just put you here physically, but she clothed, fed and dressed you for all these years, and she might have passed along a lesson or two about life along the way.

miley_mom_400Like Miley’s mom. "My mom always says, 'For every 10,000 people that love you, there's going to be another handful of 10,000 people that don't.' And it's like, there's nothing that you can change. So that's all right." Just helping her famous daughter to keep real, right?

Ryne Sanborn of HSM is also a big fan of his mom. "My mom has always been one of those people that never give up on anything. She always gives 110% at work and stuff and I’ve always looked up to that. I've never seen her give up a project. I wish I was a little bit more of a workaholic."

emily_mom_400_01We know you show your mom how much you appreciate her every day, but it’s still a good idea to make an extra effort on this day set aside just for her.  And we’re here to help with a top ten list of things you can do to show her your appreciation.  Start taking notes!

1. Spa treatments

Who doesn’t love a little pampering once in a while?  And there are so many possibilities: manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, or even a combination pack.

2.  Family time

Get together with your whole family, and plan an outing where you all get to spend the maximum of time together, while mom does the minimum of work.

3.  Jewelry

Something beautiful to brighten up her days, and that will remind her of you whenever she wears it.  That’s kewl!

4.  Clothing

Anything from a new dress all they way down to a pretty scarf or hat to brighten her day.  Spring into Summer for Mom’s Day.

5.  Flowers

An old standby, but who doesn’t love to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside?  If you want something that will last longer, think about a flowering houseplant.

6.  Breakfast in bed

A tradition in some families, and one the whole family can take part in!  Be prepared with all the fixins – and don’t forget to clean up too!

7.  Handmade Art

Things created by your own hands are a gift that every mother treasures.  Decorate picture frames, build your own collage cards – create a world for her.

8.  Music

Whether you get her a CD of her favorite tunes, or write and perform something yourself in her honor, the sound will always connect her to you.

9.  Chore coupons

The gift that really does keep giving!  Make gift coupons good for extra help from you.  Then mom can cash them in with you throughout the year!

10.  Classes

Not only will you be giving the gift of knowledge, but you’ll also be giving her some time that is truly ‘just for her’.  Painting, language, dance – what are her dreams?
