CMT AWARDS HIGHLIGHTS- Miley, Billy, Kellie, Taylor & more!
April 15th, 2008
Miley and Billy Ray showed off their hosting skills last night at the 2008 CMT Awards. Billy had fun telling his jokes and Miley had fun making a joke of her dad! But the two were good natured about it all, even if Miley did make fun of his '92 hit single "Achy Breaky Heart," pointing out that the real highlight in '92 for her dad was her being born.
Kellie Pickler took home the most awards last night, having won 3 "buckles", including Performance of the Year for "I Wonder" from the 41st Annual CMA Awards and Tearjerker Video for the same song. Although Kellie did not attend the event, we got to hear her acceptance speech via satellite when she won for Breakthrough Video of the Year." "Oh, my gosh," Pickler said. "This is the first time I've ever won anything in my life. I'm so excited. I don't know what to say. Thank you, American Idol. You are the rocket that launched my career... If I forget to say your name, it's not because I forgot you. Well, it is because I forgot, but I don't know what to say right now... Okay, you can turn the camera off now. Is the camera still on me?"
LeAnn Rimes gave her fans a treat with her performance of "Nothin' Better To Do." She showed off her dancing skills by doing a choreographed routine with her "jailbird girls" while singing her heart out.
Paula Abdul gave a fun speech about the importance of following your dreams and the meaning of "Faith" to introduce Faith and hubby Tim McGraw.
When Taylor Swift won for "Our Song" for Female Video, she grabbed the envelope and said, "Are you sure? Are you serious?" She then thanked a bunch of people, including the girl who straightened her hair for the video, "'Cuz that's really hard."
Then Snoop Dog came out and said he was the new guy in town and that he even had a new single coming out called "My Medicine." Don't bother looking it up, it really was a joke. However Jewel announced the release date of her new country album and that was not a joke. She's gone country for real.
Surprisingly, it wasn't Faith and Tim that took home the Collaberative Video of the Year award, nor was it Reba and Kelly Clarkson. So who did the buckle go to? Bon Jovi and LeAnn Rimes for "Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore." Don't know it? Check it out here. (FYI, it's very PG-13)
Billy Ray came out and made a nice speech about Miley... "I just want to take a quick moment here to be real sincere with you. I'd like to give praise to my daughter for all of her hard work, talent and success over the past couple of years. And I've decided that since Miley has been so successful, to reward her, I'm going to buy her a brand new Mercedes when she's old enough to drive... I never agreed to say that. Did somebody change the tele-prompter, what's going on here?"
More Miley and Billy:
"Well Miley, there's a lot of boys here tonight, so I think it's time we had a little talk."
"Talk about what?"
"Well, about the birds and the bees."
"Oh my gosh dad, I can not believe you are doing that here, on live television."
"Well honey, it's just we've been so daggone busy, I didn't want to wait until the Grammys."
"Yeah, you're right. You probably won't be there anyways." Ouch!
Taylor Swift had a hair flipping good time with her live performance of "Just Another Picture To Burn." She might not sound as good live as she does on her recordings but she has more than enough energy and star quality to make up for it.
The night ended with a pitch perfect performance by Carrie Underwood. She showed America why she won the American Idol title and she has no intention of handing it over to anyone!
